No - he paid for the flights - miles etc are freebies given out by airlines.

Agree also very much. Though Dave Noble has the right comment here, just book what ever J is available at good price and stop worrying about FF miles. Makes life so much easier.

No, they are marketing tools designed to increase customer lifetime value through retention. Don't treat airlines like they are charities.
