Transfer AMEX MR to AA?

I have 50k MR I would like to put towards a AA flight. Are there any mutual transfer partners from AMEX (hopefully foreign in order to not pay the $.0006 tax) that can be transferred all the way to American Airlines?

Are you trying to add 50K miles to an existing AAdvantage balance to redeem for a more costly award flight, or are you just looking to redeem 50K MR points for an AA flight? You cannot transfer other FFP miles to AAdvantage, but you can redeem miles in some other FFPs for travel on AA.

Tell us what your proposed AA flight(s) is/are, and whether you have found "MileSAAver" award seats available on aa.com. Once we know the proposed itinerary and class of service, we can make suggestions as to whether you should transfer your MR points to BA, EY, IB, etc.

Guv, thanks for the heads up. This is my first post and I want to see if this is possible.

I am flying with my wife from STL to LGA (open to JFK as well) 5/31 - 6/2. I currently have 62k MR points, soon to be 66k in a month or so. I was considering Delta, but it would cost about 58k Delta points + the MR to delta conversion fee (which I am trying to bypass) + $22.

I currently have 4k AA points in balance and found MileSAAver flights for 50k AA points + $22. Is there a way I can make this happen?

How about transferring AMEX MR to British Airways and then getting the awards from there? STL-LGA might even be cheaper using BA miles, I forget where the mileage cutoff for the 15k awards is.

I just checked, no direct flights from STL to NYC through BA.

We need to know from the OP whether the MileSAAver flights he found are on AA nonstops, or whether they involve connecting flights. If nonstops in both directions, then BA is the way to go: 7,500 BA Avios per person, one way; so a total of 30,000 BA Avios for two roundtrips on nonstop flights.

Amex MR points transfer to BA at a 1:1 ratio, but Amex occasionally runs bonus promotions (I've seen 40% in the past) on transfers to BA. But the OP should make sure that ba.com is showing the same availability that aa.com is showing before transferring a lot of points to BA.

Not sure what you were checking but BA shows plenty of seats on the 2:42pm May 31st STL-LGA nonstop.

How did you check AA award availability through BA? Do you already have a BAEC frequent-flyer account?

As mentioned above, if you transfer to BA, you can get this for 30k points +$22.

Thanks guys for showing this. For some reason, before I was signed into my account I searched for the flight with cash and was told that there are no routes. This is an incredible offer, half the price of Delta or through AA! How long does it take to transfer points from MR to BA? I want to book this ASAP.

Amex to BA transfers are usually instant.

There are no routes for cash at ba.com because BA does not fly STL-NYC, and their website will not sell you a stand-alone AA domestic flight.

This is great, thanks guys! I wish I would've known about this site before I booked my STL-KBP Europe trip with UR. Upgrading my CSP to CSR in a couple of weeks, looking forward to the lounge access and benefits!

The flights would be on AA. Are you saying BA showed no available awards for using Avios?
