AA just received first Airbus A321neo / A321-253NX / 32Q 1 Feb 2019
AA Press Release
The range on the A321neo is 4000nm @ 206 passengers and they're ETOPS 180 certified which means they can be used for TA flights. I wonder if AA starts moving in that direction? Quietly hoping Boeing launches the 797 with its twin aisles before the 321neo becomes the East coast to Western Europe norm. I can't find any passenger cost per mile but it's gotta be competitive? “The aircraft, and others like it that will follow, will first go to the maintenance facility here in Pittsburgh where about 500 people work.” Pittsburgh Business Times. Link to brief article and slideshow.
“The Airbus A321neo departed Hamburg early Friday morning for the trans-Atlantic flight to Pittsburgh. Once the plane landed in Pittsburgh, American Airlines technicians will get it ready for customer flights.” Link to CBS Pittsburgh. AA Press release includes: The A321neo is scheduled to begin flying customers April 2 between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) in Arizona and Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Florida. Once the company takes more deliveries, additional routes will include PHX–Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) in Alaska over the summer, and PHX and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Hawaii later this year as the A321neo begins to replace retiring Boeing 757s. The A321 is already a versatile aircraft, and the A321neo (which stands for “new engine option”) adds about 400 nautical miles in range thanks to improved fuel burn from the new engines, putting additional destinations within reach. American is taking the “Cabin Flex,” or “NX,” option of the A321neo, which has a new door configuration. The A321neo is part of the order for 460 aircraft placed by American in 2011, which also included 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The aircraft from that order have transformed American’s fleet into the youngest among U.S. network airlines. |

These have less range than a 757-200. They won't be scheduled on 4000nm routes - or even 4000 statute mile routes into winter winds if AA is smart. Ask United how many fuel stops their 757s (passenger max 169, not 206) made in Bangor or Gander on TXL-EWR befire they upgauged to a 767. PHX-LIH, DFW-ANC? Sure.

20F. Interesting.

The photo in the wiki is definitely not of a neo.

Can’t wait to fight a 100+ devices streaming over WiFi while trying to send email. Yes, I know the streaming is local to the aircraft ...but that is still a WHOLE BUNCH of network traffic clogging up the 802.11 spectrum that isn’t there with real wired IFE. I don’t know what bit rate this new Parker-Brand-IFE streams at, but I predict in a few years it will be seen as a colossal error. |

I was thinking the same thing as it clearly seems to show a door at 2L and that is not there in the Neo.
https://m.planespotters.net/photo/72...bus-a321-231wl I believe this is an example of a 321neo (A321-253N): https://m.planespotters.net/photo/82...rbus-a321-253n |
What is the width and pitch in Y? MCE? Better than 737-Oasis?
