It looks like DFW-BUR / Burbank is coming back

Looks like Burbank will be back to having nonstop service from DFW.

And so begins the parade of threads asking about MCTs into BUR and out of LAX.

Can't figure out why that would be a thing.

Why would that be a thing?

Because it is in NYC and DC.

I would bet on ZERO connecting fares using a BUR-LAX or LAX-BUR.
I am not aware of any AA connecting fares using connections between any of LAX area airports

While my original post was mostly in jest it doesn't mean someone, somewhere won't be looking for a way to do it.

It's leading off-topic, but somebody will find married segment availability killing a XXX-LAX-YYY award and want to try xxx-BUY <> LAX-YYY. Just wait for it. Heck, AA may even offer it as a saver routing.

There have been PHX-BUR flights on HP-->US-->AA for as long as I can remember. I don't recall anyone ever asking about connecting between BUR and LAX, but perhaps I've missed those.

BUR is a great airport to fly into (and out of), especially if you happen to be going to that part of the area. When I lived near PHX, I generally preferred not to fly to LAX, but to BUR, ONT, LGB, SNA, etc. (and I don't recall seeing any threads asking about connecting between any of the others and LAX either).

It will be tough competing with WN's service, multiple hourly one stop direct and one daily nonstop from Love Field

I think the pax numbers AA and WN will compete over are low. This route is a huge benefit for a large group of LA Basin FFs connecting to midwest/southeast/east markets that have no n/s service via LAX, as well as a smaller contingent that will take a connecting flight over a nonstop in exchange for BUR airport's convenience. The demographic of high value customers for whom BUR is a preferable airport is meaningfully larger than when BUR was previously served from DFW. The flights will draw from residential and business growth in Hollywood and points east, including Downtown and Glendale. AA also has a large customer base of potential BUR inbound traffic that has used LAX as a substitute when necessary and never would consider the WN service.

The Boring Company would like to prove you wrong, but we'll see.

These flights were announced back in October and posted in the AA Flight Schedule Expansions & Additions 2019 thread in November.

Domestic Additions

American also plans to increase service from its largest hub at DFW. As announced in March, the airline reached a lease agreement with the airport resulting in 15 new regional gates after renovating the Terminal E satellite, which is scheduled for completion during the summer of 2019. As part of the expansion, American will add new service to Valley International Airport (HRL) in Harlingen, Texas, beginning March 3, and launch seven additional domestic routes from DFW:

Beginning March 3, new daily, year-round service:
DFW–Augusta Regional Airport (AGS) in Georgia
DFW–Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) in Florida
DFW–Yuma International Airport (YUM) in Arizona
DFW–Meadows Field Airport (BFL) in Bakersfield, California
Beginning April 2, new daily service:
DFW–Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) in California (seasonal)
DFW–Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG) in Arizona (year-round)
DFW–Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) in California (year-round)

These new routes are part of American’s plan to grow its DFW operations from approximately 800 peak daily departures today to close to 900 peak daily departures next summer.

But I don't think BUR is part of the LAX city code.

Connections between DCA/IAD and LGA/JFK are possible because fares are filed to citie like NYC and WAS, not airports (obviously rules coding can restrict their applicability). Ever bought an MCI-RSW ticket? What you really bought was priced MKC-FMY.

Is there any legal way to book a through fare when the connect point is two different airports not in the same city? I don't see how it wouldn't break the itinerary and price separate O&Ds DFW-BUR and LAX-wherever.

Edited to add: But if one really wanted to do this, I would allow about 2 1/2 hours. I speak from experience when my AA BUR-PHX flight canceled and AA rebooked me out of LAX and gave me a voucher for the BUR-LAX cab ride.
