AA125 DFW-HKG landed at MFM / Macau (to merge)

Does anyone know why AA125 landed in Macau instead of Hong Kong. I am picking up some friends and was just notified the aircraft is at MCM.

Oh Boy
I love having this flight but the margin of error for Irrop is absolutely minimal on DFW-HKG

Hope AA at least pay for the Ferry or Bus Tickets back to HKG @:-)

I was on this flight. It was fog at HKG, yet we seemed to be the only flight to divert to MFM. They unloaded F and J after about two hours on the plane. We went through passport control and customs, and they unloaded the bags for those who had checked luggage. A shuttle bus to bring us to the bridge arrived around 08:30 pm. We didn't see anyone else waiting, so I don't know how Premium Economy or Economy customers were accommodated. We finally were on the HZMB shortly after 9:15 pm and finally arrived at HKG around 10 pm.

It was a complete mess, and I heard that there were many passengers with passports that did not allow either Macau or HK entry without a visa. Fortunately I didn't have a connection, and I was able to share a ride up north to Shenzhen.

I was on this flight in F. It was a huge mess. After sitting on the plan for over 1.5 hours, we were let off. Very disorganized. Several buses, several opportunity to clear customs and immigration. No real communication. Aa did have a few staff shepherding the group around. But very haphazard. We found ourselves to the ticketing agent. 2 of them were attempting to rebook and provide hotel vouchers. After a good 45 minutes we made it to the agent. Aa had already booked us on a 0810 the next morning to Singapore. So all we needed was a hotel. He wrote a hotel on a piece of paper. Said it’s 45 minutes away and tell taxi driver to get his fair from the hotel. Mind you, it’s midnight and we had been traveling for about 24 hours. Needing to return to the airport by 0600 for a 0810 flight, we chose to stay at a airport hotel. Come to learn there is a hotel connected to the terminal. Why did aa not put us up there? 0600 arrives we go to check in on Cathay pacific and they have no record of our rebook. I have no documents, aa app updated and my flight information disappeared. We then spent roughly 45 minutes working between Cathay and aa to figure it out. Aa did not “ticket” our new reservation. Finally on a 1600 flight to Singapore. Cluster and waist of valuable vacation time.

Fantastic "F" experience. btw - just a guess - award tkt? (Since you mentioned plural travelers and vacation, tkt was my guess. And no, it SHOUDL not matter, but...)

First, you didn't notice my FlyerTalk tags on my rollaboard suitcase and briefcase? We likely shared the bus ride over.

I'll echo what you said. Where were they wanting to put you up for the evening? If I had a connection I would have insisted in decreasing order on 1) the Regal at the airport, 2) the SkyCity Marriott, or 3) the Novotel CityGate in Tung Chung.

I still don't know what happened to the Y passengers. I was in the last row of J, and I didn't see anyone get off of the plane after I did.

Hey Francis... it's been quite a few years since those SFO MRs (from when AA was still in T3).

Yeah, AA paid for bus tickets on the HKMB, and the AA agent paid for the bus between the bus terminal on the HK side to the airport terminal. They had a shuttle bus take us from the Macau Airport to the bus terminal on the Macau side. A ferry would have probably been faster directly to the SkyPier, but my recollection is that those services quit running early into the evening. This way was probably best since customers were at least reunited with their luggage directly at the airport. There are worse places to divert than Macau, and Macau extends visa free access to most passport holders. I think the only people affected on our flight were Vietnamese passport holders, and I heard there were quite a few on the flight. I don't know what arrangements AA made to accommodate them.

during irrops, I make it a point to screen capture flights, notices, boarding passes ...all into the photos. That way you have a record. And/or demand documents from agents.

I know it doesn’t matter, but as I was taxiing out on 263 to PEK and saw the 125 plane backing out, I actually thought what those poor souls might be in for after hearing the horror stories recently. Now I know...

I am on the following flight. A 15 hour delay out of Hong Kong. Waiting in HKG for the original departure there was a gate assigned for about 1 minute and then it went "Gate Change" with no new gate ever assigned. After starring at the screen until about 15 minutes before the planned departure time I finally called the EXP line. After a wait they told me it was being delayed until the next late morning. Never received a delay notice on the AP. Went back through immigration and back into the city for a hotel room. Zombie flight.

Those were the fun days, flying back and forth on ORD-SFO

Of all the places to divert, MFM was probably a good one vs. going to SZX/CAN on a typhoon day
Less Visa restrictions for most people vs. going to CN/TW.

At least the crews gets to lose money at the casino LOL

DEQM (and TEQM in late 2011/early 2012) with 100% RDM bonus as EXP!

Yeah, MFM was a good choice considering they grant visa free access to most of the likely passport holders on the flight. However, it didn't help the Vietnamese nationals on the plane, and I don't know what they did to accommodate those individuals. There also hasn't been a single world from AA or proactive customer service bonus for the situation. I wasn't out any money on this one fortunately, but others had travel disruptions.
