I just got an email for someone I had signed up a year or so ago. They have never flown AA, and have never earned 1 EQM, EQD, EQS..........

Enjoy free AAdvantage® Platinum Pro status through May 15, 2019.Keep your status through January 31, 2020, by earning:
  • $2,400 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) and
  • 20,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs)
VERY ODD!

I have nothing.

have 7 flights booked on AA so far this year. Going for status this year as I just graduated college and will be flying more for work.

I didn't get anything, but there appears to be no rhyme or reason, and I'm currently signed up for a status challenge so that's probably at least part of it. At least I was able to use my Amex credit to pay for that. Still with the criteria listed I could have made some serious status...

I received the offer for free Gold status (promo code H119G) as well as a free challenge to extend it to Jan 2020 if I earn 7,000 EQM and $850 EQD. I was an AA elite for many years but have been a free agent recently. I only have 5 segments on AA in the last year. All were paid domestic F.

My offer doesn't show the opportunity to reach higher status. I wonder if I can call to upgrade my challenge, or if they'll do it automatically if I reach the criteria? I'm not particularly excited about Gold but PLT or PLT Pro would be worth something to me.

I received the Gold offer, like in the OP. Have never had status with AA, but I "religiously" fly once every ~18 months to keep miles from expiring.

As another data point, UA Gold based in PHL for most of 2018 with just a few segments on AA and got the Gold offer today. Actually in the middle of a DL status challenge after moving to BOS -- had considered going AA but didn't want to pay for their challenge, so very interesting timing on their part.

I've never done a status challenge, but I'm an EXP dropping down to PLT in a couple of weeks. They want me to pay $1800 to buy up to PRO even though I'll be qualified for PRO by June based on booked 2019 travel.

Wish they'd given me a challenge, especially one that would let me get back up to EXP... But no dice.

I was surprised to see that the Gold promo was available to me.
I qualified for Platinum only once a couple of years back (2016 I believe) and before that had done the old Platinum challenge as well, but that was it. Flew AA once a couple of weeks ago after not having flow them for over 2 years.

Interestingly enough my wife did not get the offer, and our flying (at least with AA) is essentially the same. The only difference is that she did not do the PLT challenge back in the day, but since then at least 95% of the time (100% if you just count past 3-4 years) I flew with AA she also did.

Damn! Nothing for me. I have enough planned travel (not booked) to put me close to EXP, but a challenge would make it so easy! :-

I have a simple question (I will ask here as this is tagged as a wiki thread, if that's a problem, please move the thread to an appropriate location);

If I do a challenge before June 2019 (say a platinum challenge), the status will be valid till Jan 2020. But if I travel after I achieve Platinum and reach (say) EXP before December 2019, I will be EXP till Jan 2021. Am I correct?

The best place to inquire about a normal Challenge (as opposed to this targeted promo) is https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...ge-2017-a.html. We may move your post and this one there after a bit.

In any case, you are correct.

A challenge begun before mid-June 2019 will provide status through January 2020.

(A challenge begun after mid-June 2019 will provide status through January 2021.)

If you fly sufficiently to earn Platinum, Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum during c/y 2019, that will provide status through January 2021.

Can someone translate $1,500 EQD's & 12,500 Elite Qualifying miles in to BA terms. The promotion doesn't mention anything about flying on AA metal either which is great as I am based in London.

Any help would be much appreciated

It depends on the cabin and booking code...
https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/...sh-airways.jsp

You can earn between 50% and 300% of actual miles flown as EQM (Depending on booking code)
You can earn between 5% and 30% of actual miles flown as EQD (Depending on the booking code)

At deepest discount fares (G, O, Q), you'd have to fly 30,000 miles to get to $1,500 EQD and 15,000 EQM
At full-fare first (F), you'd have to fly 5,000 miles to get 15,000 EQM and $1,500 EQD

And every possibility in between.

Thank you very much. Looks like I might need a few Long Haul trips as opposed to a few business class hops from London to Amsterdam then.
