It was either this flight or the next or the previous that would have had the seat out of service. Seems pretty clear it will be fixed.

Looks like a lovely ottoman, or maybe a buddy seat so you can dine with a friend?

With ATL being an outstation, they might not have the spare parts on hand, especially if the entire seat needs to be replaced.

I can see the posts now if AA delayed the flight to fix it. "First class was half empty, why did they need to delay my flight to fix this? They could have rearranged pax in F and left this seat empty. Now I missed my connection in LGA, terrible customer service!"

They can never win...

This. As usual, some people expect simple solutions to complex problems...

No, it is likely it fell off during a busy flight schedule. Do you think AA should have routed an extra plane to ATL to replace it, or do you think they have a ton of extra aircraft of each model, so they can quickly replace one with a broken seat in ATL?

Have we heard from the person who was #1 on the upgrade list from this flight?

Years back I flew MIA/LGA on a 757. There were two rows of F sealed off by yellow police tape. The seats looked completely operable and the FAs had no idea of why they had been lined off. I just laughed (luckily my upgraded wasn't effected). Stuff happens and a new seat and likely mechanics would have been required to fly into ATL to fix the issue.

Few years ago on the early morning ONT-PHX flight, there was a whole row INOP. We had to wait about an hour for the contracted maintenance guy to show up to the airport and literally put a piece of tape across the row saying do not use.

You should choose to see it as an upgrade for you. Your seat has an ottoman.
Don't you mean the new OttomAAn Xlass? Good use of a SWU to unlock that.
