Same Day Flight Change--Total Fraud

I am on a confirmed revenue business class ticket from LAX-xDFW-oHKG, all on AA metal on an AA issued ticket.

Although a connection (<24-hours at DFW), I am overnighting at DFW for a dinner meeting. The meeting was cancelled so I now want to take a later flight from LAX to DFW on the same day.

There are 14-non-stop flights from LAX to DFW. There are business class seats still available for sale on most of the flights.

I called the ExPlat desk and asked to same day change to a later flight. Was told nothing is available. Can't override it. No supervisors are working. Nothing they can do.

OK. Put me in coach on a later flight. "We would have to reprice it."

But isn't coach cheaper than business? "Not on the day of the flight."

14 flights and not one single seat available on any of the flights for a same day change.

Same day flight change benefit? Bull. Total fraud.

Isn't the rule for SDFC that it has to be a domestic journey , to Canada, to Caribbean or between London and New York

LAX-HKG doesn't seem to meet any of those criteria

If so, the information given by agent seems correct for AA in that it needs to be repriced

I often check out options for SDFC even though I don't need/want it. And often it's just as the OP describes. No options to be confirmed on a later flight according to the app after checking in for my flight. my routes tend to be xSFO - DFW; PHL, MIA, LAX, CTL ORD.

I'm like "Really AA??!!"

I agree with the OP.

And the effective 努e値l downgrade you if you bought a premium class ticket and want to go standby is obnoxious.

I have no problem with SDFC on some routes. LAXDFW has been tough for me. I used to think I could figure out the reason, but as has been posted, AA changed the requirements and they seem to be quite nebulous.

On some routes, in my experience, it tends to be as long as they have at least one seat to sell in J, they will let me SDFC into it. I have a hunch that on major 田onnector flights that feed premium international traffic, AA is far tighter in terms of inventory control to allow more flexibility in reaccommodating premium pax affected by irrops. All speculation on my part so please take with a grain of salt.

Edited to add: after the recent changes, some of my routes became FAR easier to SDFC. So definitely not 鍍otal fraud from my experience. YMMV.

Bottom line is that OP is accusing AA of "fraud" for adhering to its own rules. Same Day Change is not available on his ticket because the only international route for which it is available is JFK-LHR. His ticket is LAX-HKG.

Thus, what OP wants is a change. Presuming that his J ticket is a fairly typical discounted fare bucket, the change fee is at least $300 + fare difference. A supervisor would need to waive one or both of those to make this happen.

The fact that there is F availability for LAX-DFW on all 14 flights is immaterial. It is the fact that OP wants to make a change and there is a fee for a change.

Why? Because AA sells flexible tickets which cost more. Who in their right mind would pay for the more expensive ticket if they could get the same service for less?

I respectfully disagree.

Offering a product that is never available is misleading, and some other transportation providers have been nailed for the same thing (e.g., offering fares for tickets that are never, or almost never, available has been found to be false advertising or the like).

I’ve had options available for SDFC my last several domestic trips, so to say it’s never available is incorrect. Do I always like the options available? No, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a choice there.

I was recently successfully in completing an SDFC via AA.com on a Central America to US trip that had both international and domestic segments on the PNR, all without any agent interaction.

SDC is a lame benefit as it's only good for the exact same routing.

Tried to do SDC this week home from ORD but E0 was all that was available across the board except one flight that had E3. When I called to change, for the 2nd time the agent told me that E means nothing and it's under the airport control so she wouldn't change it.

Please read the terms & conditions for SDC which are posted in plain English on the AA website and then tell me how you can possibly make this statement.

OP is ticketed LAX-HKG with a connection at DFW. That is not eligible for SDC. Period.

Of course it's not available because it is not eligible,

On the other hand, if OP were ticketed for LAX-DFW of LAX-anywhere domestic or LAX-JFK-LHR, and SDC is never available, then it would be a meaningless benefit and subject to appropriate consumer fraud action by DOT.
