Actually it does matter a lot, between 4 and 5 (or higher). Typically the Gate Area has 2 lanes, 1-4 and 5-9, if they are boarding say 5,6,7 and there is a large group of people waiting to board, then all the 4 has to do is keep to the left and enter in their likely empty 1-4 lane. Saves a some time and the need to push into the 5,6,7 + line.
