The news link in the OP says"travelers should avoid coming to T4 until the situation is resolved" but if someone misses the check in deadline, will airlines either waive the requirement or rebook them for free?

PHX Term 4 is shut down. No flights in or out. Controlled explosions have happened. Most of Term 4 has been evacuated, rest moved to secure area.

Landed 30’ ago and still waiting for a gate to open up. The pilot said there are a lot of delayed flights since neither passengers or crew were able to make it through security. I’m sure it’s chaotic inside the terminal.

Per SkyHarbor Twitter, terminal 4 is opening back up and operations are returning to normal. That said, my flight in to Phoenix from socal hasn't been cleared to board yet, so I don't others have either.

EDIT: My flight finally cleared, operations at Phoenix are normalizing.

EDIT 2: landed in Phoenix 👍

Mrs Glueguy was LAS-PHX-TPA this morning. Landed fine and during the layover is when the excitement began. Flight was finally cancelled after 3-4 hours. FA's for the flight were coming from another terminal and were in the interterminal train. No one was allowed off the trains for >2 hours. When the flight was cancelled the GA specifically said it was not a timeout issue but rather a "legal issue" that caused the cancellation. Any idea what that means?

Timing out is based on a regulation, but maybe the GA meant a law enforcement issue of the crew not being able to get to the terminal. It’s still a bit of a non-sensical explanation, though they were probably trying to convey that it was outside the airline’s control. The crew wouldn’t have been transferring from another terminal as AA is only in terminal 4, but rather from the parking lot.

"Legalities" were also mentioned for my PHX-TPA flight that eventually cancelled Sunday afternoon. Arrived from HNL around 630am, got over from B to A gates fine (must have barely made it across before everything starting shutting down), then the breach happened and the TPA flight was on rolling delays for about 4 hours due to the flight attendants being stuck either in the B gates or outside security (never was clear which). We had an aircraft and pilots ready the whole time. Eventually after things opened up the FAs showed up and the announcement was made that we would be boarding in 5 minutes. That didn't happen, and after about 30 minutes an announcement was made that there was a "legality" issue with the FAs, and the GA specifically said it wasn't a "timeout" issue. After about another 30 minutes, one FA deplaned. After about another 30 minutes, a different FA showed up. The GA then said we had to board very quickly or would be cancelled. So boarding began, but halted after Group 4, then the flight finally cancelled a few minutes later (about 5 hours after the original scheduled departure time).

Fortunately was able to grab a seat on the Monday morning nonstop to TPA, after initially being auto-rebooked on a 1am redeye connecting through CLT.

Had a flight time out twice, through all the delays due to no crew. First time we boarded and while at the gate, pilots came out and told us why they timed out and apologized, the second timeout happened while taxiing to the runway, was listening to ATC during taxi after telling ground they might have to go back to the gate, but then decided to taxi:

Ground: AAXXX you missed your taxiway, turn left B10, left S and take the south course to 25R
AAXXX: Ground, we're going to have to go back to the gate, we're at crew time out.

AA Pilot on PA 2 minutes later: Sorry, but we're going to have to return to the gate, we have a mechanical issue with the plane.

Didn't even have the balls to tell us why we were getting our flight cancelled, unlike the other crew, stayed in the cockpit as we deplaned the second time. The 6 hour ordeal was a cluster; but hey, now I get to spend the night in beautiful Phoenix.

Here's an article about it: https://www.azcentral.com/story/news...or/1329954002/

Driver parked and went in to the terminal to help his girlfriend check in, tow truck was called to tow, police found traces of something that caused them to call the bomb squad. Driver was detained and questioned while the bomb squad robot tore up the rental. Ultimately, the car was finally towed and the driver was released with only a parking violation.
