Smile LAX Stop over on separate award flights

Hi,
Please forgive if asked and answered. I'm planning award travel JFK Syd Round trip. I wanted to do a 2 day stop over in LA.
NY Syd depending on availability is 40k eachway LAX to NYC (only anytime is available) is 20k. Can I book JFK Syd then return Syd LAX for 80k then book LAX JFK for 20k? I think thats less than two seperate RT bookings (ie JFK/LAX and LAX/SYD). Thoughts and suggestions please.

Certainly. All AAdvantage awards are offered as one-ways.

Yes, all award flights are technically one way tickets, it makes the most sense to book your trip as three oneway tickets.
