Two tickets, two routes, similar time departure?

Hello,

My brother was supposed to fly PHL-PHX-PHL next week and now needs to fly PHX-AUS instead of the return to PHL around the same date/time. The PHL ticket is main cabin but too cheap to get any residual value on the return segment by changing it so he was planning on just no-showing. Assuming AA will flag having 2 reservations at the same time, what is the best way to deal with this without paying a bunch of extra money out of pocket? Thanks!

Short answer would be to remove his FF # off the new rez. He would not get credit for it, at least initially. Others may know if he would be able to request missing credit for it later, without it raising a flag.

You can also do Southwest, as they also offer non stop to AUS as well, or another carrier. If using AA, as indicated above, best not to enter the frequent flyer # as AA may recognize it as an impossible booking and might cancel the reservation.

so no FF number, maybe a change to his name (include/omit the middle name perhaps?), and he should be fine?

Southwest won't work for him, unfortunately.

Pretty much that will seem to be the trick.
