AA Mileage Multiplier / Multiply Your Miles

Is .032 cents a mile a decent value for purchasing miles?

MathMusic Jun 12, 18 6:41 am

Most people I have seen value AA miles at 1.4/1.5 cents per mile (or $0.015)

The mileage multiplier you see on kiosks is usually about double what I think I'd pay for them.

The offered rate is not, unless you need the miles to top up for a pending aspirational upgrade. AA often has sales offering better prices.

There’s an archived discussion ending in 2015 here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...now-3x-4x.html

.032 cents per mile is an unusually good deal.
On the other hand $.032 is NOT

Thanks for the info! I checked their current offer and it is slightly better - about .021 a mile for a purchase high enough to qualify for the bonus miles.

OK, so I'm not understanding your comment. For an upcoming trip they are offering a mileage multiplier of 6558 miles for $213. Am I doing the math correctly? 213 divided by 6558 equals .032xxxxxxxxxxx. Are we talking semantics here? I don't see a difference between .032 cents and $.032.

Does that include the Fed Tax and the admin fee?

EileenSRN Jun 12, 18 7:37 am

Actual total cost is 212.17 Cost of miles is 197.37

That makes it .032 DOLLARS per mile, not .032 CENTS per mile, which is exactly what mvoight was talking about.

So, yeah, semantics ;)

You never know when AA's IT fails and offers something this good, though you always know FA offers once in a life time credit card deals good for multiple award travels :)

That would be a pretty funny way of announcing a glitch/mistake fare. "Hi everyone, I was just wondering if $57 is a decent price for a J ticket on LAX-HKG, please advise" :D

Welcome to FT! :D

Does anyone actually buy the mileage multiplier? It never seems like a good value.

thunderlounge Jun 12, 18 9:54 am

It’s usually not, although there may be outlier cases.
