AA miles on AA metal but ticket is AS marketed / codeshare (to merge)
Husband is AA Platinum/AS Gold 75k and has a one way flight LAX-SAN tomorrow (6/1) that is on AS stock/flight number, but AA metal. Called AA and added Platinum account number to get upgraded seat. No seems to know how many miles he will get for flight (109 flight miles, M fare), but stated he should get some miles. He is 135 miles short of an award ticket we need to book for August. When I started to check him in on AA (no check in available for the flight on AS website), it gave me the option to purchase 500 miles for $17. Anyone with any experience with this scenario since the January change? AA Advantage is closed until the morning, but they seemed a bit confused yesterday as well, so was hoping someone on here may know. He normally rather have the AS segment (he flies SAN-SJC every week, so is trying to accumulate segments), but if we could top off the AA account for the award ticket with this flight it would be ideal.

As of this year, the new policy is clear that there is no earning on AA for AS-marketed flights (AS flight number). You can, however, earn AS miles (RDM and EQM). If you change the FF# to AS, you may even be able to keep the MCE seat.
For sticklers, there is a policy that if you use AAdvantage benefits on a flight, you must credit the miles to AAdvantage. But it doesn't seem applicable to a case like this one where the flight is ineligible for AAdvantage earning (but still offers some AAdvantage benefits because it's AA-operated).

As an Alaska marketed flight, regardless of operating airline, he can’t earn EQ anything, nor award / redeemable miles. The only way he could earn award miles is with the offer. $17 or no miles.
Which airline ticketed is immaterial.
We will merge this into the existing thread soon. ENDED: AA Elite Status Benefits & Most AA Miles Earning on Alaska Airlines (AS).
