It doesn't seem long since they were discretely recognized and escorted through, then they started being welcomed by name, now they are just another boarding group and seem to come in packs.

seriously.....it was so much better for everyone involved when it was more discreet.....now it feels like Diva city on some high CK flights. Hopefully they go to Delta now that AA is losing NYC corporate contracts and keeps degrading their NYC flying.

No doubt AA has surveyed and concluded that "recognition" is valued, but from stories like this, AA seems to have created a monster. Ok not a monster, but bringing out the ego in some of these folks.

Earlier this year, I was on a flight from DFW, I think going to LGA. Anyway, boarding was about to begin, and a line starts forming. I'm in line, group 2, letting group one and military pass me. As I am standing in line, a woman who was behind me, steps out of line and gets in front of me (she doesn't say a word). There is a guy next to me and we look at each other in dis belief.
I say loudly "This woman must be really important"
She turns around and says, "I don't think I am important. But a man should let a lady on first. You need to be more aware of your surroundings"
Me: "I am aware" (as I point out to the military person I just let pass me)
At this point, group 2 is called. The lady hands her boarding pass to the agent. I heard the buzz from the scanner, SHE WAS AT THE WRONG GATE!!! I let out a huge, mocking laugh, karma! She walked away with her head a little low.

Which is particularly odd for me anyways. My goal, and presumably many others on these threads, is to be the least profitable customer in the most expensive seat LOL. That's what makes the DYWKIA behavior even more hilarious...

On the shuttle from Lga to Dca. Guy gets on and tries to put his bag in the overhead bin over the bulkhead seat in first. All other bins are empty and he is not in the bulkhead. Fa asks him to put his bag in the second bin to leave room for those in the bulkhead to put up smaller bags. Guy says to the fa are you telling a concierge key member where to put their bag. Fa remains very polite but firm in asking that he put his bag in a different overhead. Which is actually the overhead acros from his seat. Guy says the concierge key desk is going to hear about this.

Ok. I figure he is stressed and blowing off steam and actually knows he is being sort of ridiculous. Then he actually gets on his phone and calls the concierge key desk and as loudly as humanly possible says I am having a problem with one of your fas and want you to know about it so you can do something. Must have been told someone would get back to him. Entire rest of the first class cabin offered to call american about the guy. Guy got on the phone and began to loudly berate someone in his office.

Would've been awesome if AA pulled the FA and the result was the flight being canceled due to crew shortage. The guy would've really proved his point there.

It would've been better if that CK was pulled off the flight

Sure, but having a planeload of ticked off passengers focusing their ire on one person would've made for one hell of a walk of shame up the jetway.

but is the DYKWIA psychologically equipped to understand they deserve a walk of shame?

FA should have pulled the "I don't feel safe" phrase and had the pilot come out and reprimand the CK on ego trip.
Certainly when a CK calls to complain about something they note the account, and if it's trivial like where to store his luggage, then HOPEFULLY they can somehow subjectively figure that in for whether he remains CK next year.

Right after a recent AA flight I was riding a shuttle for a 90 min ride to a nearby city. We were waiting for what turned out to be a VERY demanding DYKWIA elderly lady with a "service dog" It was definitely not a service dog, and she was definitely an unpleasant person in general. The woman caused us to be 15 mins late departing because she couldn't find the pickup location. Dispatch was telling the driver she was close, and she eventually showed up with a mangy small terrier dog on a leash, several wheeled suitcases, in the same hand as the leash, and talking loudly on her phone. As she approached, she was yelling at the driver. I was sitting in the front passenger seat.

She proceeded to ignore the instructions of the shuttle driver who asked her to put the dog in her carrier before allowing the dog in the van, and literally yelled at him for not walking 500 yards down the sidewalk to help her "because I'm an old lady." This driver is supposed to know where this lady is standing, what she looks like, and that she's his passenger?
She told him loudly he wasn't doing his job correctly, that she was calling the company to report him, and that he'd be hearing from her **lawyer** for not helping her with her luggage. She then unzipped the dog carrier and let this mangy little rat dog climb all over the other passengers (who had this "are you freaking kidding me?" looks on their faces, while she got on the phone and demanded a manager speak with her about the driver.

Lesson: Some people are just grumpy d-bags, CK or not. Elite status for these people does to their normal horrible attitudes what alcohol does to sloppy drunks: brings out the worst qualities that are already there.

I told the driver loudly, so the obnoxious DYKWIA passenger could hear, "If your boss needs to know the other side of the story, give them my name and number."

The driver's phone rang after 10 minutes, it was his boss, who talked for 5 minutes then asked to have the phone handed to the woman. She refused to talk to the transport company. Eventually the driver pursuaded her to talk, since she's the one who started this mess, and from the old grumpy lady's answers, you can imagine how things went. This is what we heard in the shuttle.

"No, I do not wish to be dropped off by the side of the road."
"Yes, I will keep the service dog in the carrier"
"Yes, I will follow the directions of the driver"
"No, I have no more questions."

After hanging up she kept complaining but the van full of passengers had a good laugh at her.
