What to do with unused systemwide upgrades
So I have 4 systemwide upgrades available. I made EP last year and never took a trip that justified using them. I always had my standard upgrades go through. These expire on 1/31. I'll be taking a few trips until then that I have already been upgraded on. Is there any other way to use these things?

1) Do you have some friends or family member that is travelling on AA soon, perhaps use them to upgrade them. I did that
2) Sponsor a random person to upgrade, be charitable. I used my last 2 on a couple going to SFO, I was already upgraded on the flight anyway.

If youre a very high value EP, great Helix score / several Eagles, you could extend them as well. But for most of us hoi polloi, give them away or let them expire.

You can definitely try to apply them to any of your flights after 1/31. As long as they have upgrade availability. I don't think I have a high Helix/Eagle score (paid about 5k "EQD" to qualify for EXP in 2016) but an agent gladly applied my last SWU for a flight in February. Just a brief hold until the ok was granted by a supervisor or RM.
