AA's same day change policy is nothing to get excited about, IMO.

Assuming space available, the one nice thing about this versus standby is you get the confirmed seat which then you can upgrade. Typically if you're standing by, the upgrades process before the standbys so you've got no shot at it. That said, on my routes, upgrades are few and far between so not a huge deal, but it is nice to get that confirmed seat and not have to battle standby lists.

Disagree. Doesn't this put you ahead of non-rev and crew standby as well? With that being said, my wife does standby pretty much weekly on one of the toughest routes in AA's entire system (DFW-AUS) and I don't believe she's ever NOT cleared.

If only SDC didn't require the same routing! Makes it nearly useless in most instances. I get now allowing changes to the # of stops, but why routing?

Now a pipe dream would be to mimick the UA policy of being a 24 hour change, not same day. That would allow more nights at home when meetings end early/etc.

I'm 100% successful on AA Standby (for both earlier and later flights), but it would be good to be able to do free SDC just to get a confirmed seat and to be able to get into an upgrade queue and relax.
