Status valid thru 1/30/20?

Apologies if this is a dumb question.. Just logged into the AA website and see that my status is "Valid through: Jan 31, 2020". I haven't yet requalified in 2018, so shouldn't my status (earned in 2017) expire in Jan 2019? What am I missing?

That's for what you're earning now, in 2018. If you look below, the graphs are not filled in at all (assuming you haven't flown yet), so your status through 1/31/20 is nothing. Whatever status you have from 2017 is what you've got through 1/31/19.

It confused me a bit when I started flying more in 2016 as well.

Are you sure it doesn't say "Keep flying to enjoy this status through Jan 31, 2020?" I.e., here's how much more you need to fly to earn the status that will be good until that date?

Mine has nothing that indicates an expiration date of my current status. Are you somewhere other than www.aa.com/loyalty/profile/summary?

I think you are right.
On aa.com, it says:Progress to Gold (YTD)

Keep flying to enjoy this status through Jan 31, 2020

But the status section on the left:Elite status

Executive Platinum

Valid through: Jan 31, 2019

Check aa app as well, valid through Jan 31, 2019.

No, it definitely says that the status is valid through Jan 2020, both on the webpage and the app (the app is where I first noticed it). On the left side of https://www.aa.com/loyalty/profile/summary under "AAdvantage account summary" it first lists my name, FF#, and join date. Then it says:

Elite status

Platinum Pro
Valid through: Jan 31, 2020

Seems like some flawed logic!

Screen shot? Mine doesn't have any "Valid through", even with 2019 - perhaps lifetime/MM status suppresses it. I can't think of how you would have met 2018 qualification levels already. Is Platinum Pro what you earned in 2017?

There are 2 messages

One which is "Keep flying to enjoy this status through Jan 31, 2020" and another

Elite status
<status>

Valid through: Jan 31, 2019

If the OP's states 2020, the either has done a few flights this year so far that have renewed already or there is a mistake

This one makes sense. Presumably you have status (earned 2 years ago) which will expire on the 31st of this month. So as far as AA is concerned, you have status. If you keep flying this year and requalify, you'll earn status till 31/01/2020, as stated.

What the OP is seeing however, doesn't make sense.

Assuming no one has been on constant RTW trips since 1/1, I'd say this is a glitch. I wouldn't count on status lasting until then (even with "but I have a screenshot" )

The reason you do not show an expiration date is because you are Lifetime Platinum with the 2+ million miles.
