AA established DFW-KEF / Keflavik International Airport for Reykjavik, Iceland, a seasonal route, on 7 June 2018 using a 75L (international, lie flat seats) model 756-200.

AA announced the changing of this flight to PHL-KEF effective 4 Jun 2020 with the same 75L aircraft type.l

That's the best I've found so far. AA J is around $2800 r/t which is a couple hundred more than what Iceland Air is offering and of course Saga Class doesn't feature lie-flat seating. To me, for those shopping the premium cabin, AA is the obvious choice.

I've noticed when pricing out fares to continental Europe next summer that a lot of competitive fares are being offered via KEF on Iceland Air. As has been noted on this thread, that is likely what concerns AA the most and what prompted their entry into the DFWKEF market.

The MCTs published for KEF at the moment do not mention BA, but if you had an MCT similar to those for FI-FI, GL-GL, B6-FI, FI-GL and so on which are all less than one hour, it would be reasonable to connect from LHR on BA to DFW, and to LHR on BA from DFW.

You could also use Easyjet to get from LTN (London Luton) towards DFW, but not returning, if you could make do with a non-Oneworld flight. Clearly doing this is on you, no through ticketing or baggage.

Currently an AA-BA connection cannot be found, due to the erroneously (in my opinion) long default MCT at KEF without any override for BA/AA.

I found as low as $550:

But it is $1100 going from AUS

Regardless of why it's being done, I'm very glad to see this. We've been flying to Iceland every year from Chile since 2008, and with no through connections on a OW carrier or AA partner it's been a real pain. I welcome the now all-AA two-flight itinerary to get from one end of the world to the other.

I'm considering visiting Iceland in October. I'm seeing "Service between DFW and REK is subject to government approval". Though AA would start selling tickets after the route is officially approved.

AA shows that on literally every new (international) route they launch. Regardless of whether they already have approval, it's open skies or just a formality. just ignore it and all will be well.

Just a footnote here. I have no idea what MCT for KEF supposedly is, but I believe KEF is a frustrating airport. Lengthy queues everywhere. They even advise you on disembarking it will be some time before you will be able to retrieve your checked baggage (it’s true, but of course they recommend you do some shopping first).

If you’re thinking of visiting Reykjavik, it’s an expensive taxi (~$150 1-4), arranged car (~$150 and up), away - or take the handy FlyBus to the bus station for $26 (free WiFi) with onward busses to other destinations included for $32; kids under 12 free, 12-15 50% discount. Great preparation for breathtaking prices you’ll encounter in beautiful Iceland

Today, for mid-August, AA wants 110,000 AAnytime or $10,620 one way for SNF-DFW-KEF. (Our small cruise ship leaves REK for Greenland, Labrador and ending in NYC.)

Wow, seriously? I'd hazard a guess that that's the most expensive standard bus ticket from a city's main airport to city anywhere in the world. Can anyone beat that?

That's not the standard bus ticket. Flybus is an express bus service operated by Reykjavik Excursions. There's also a public bus: Strćtó route 55 costs ISK 1,840 (only $19!!). Given that the Flybus takes 45 minutes vs an hour and ten minutes on Strćtó, JDiver is right to recommend Flybus. Note that the main bus station (BSÍ) is not downtown. Depending on your destination in Reykjavik it could be short cab ride or a 10-30 minute walk.

Back on topic, your KEF experience may vary a lot depending on season and time of day. I've seen very long lines at the check-in counters, but then no line at the electronic kiosks. Icelandair lets you self-tag bags and then drop them. I don't know what AA will offer.

Sounds too expensive and too much of a hassle.

No thanks!

It's definitely an expensive place. But no more of a hassle than LHR.

Not even in the same ballpark as LHR in my opinion. I would compare it more to an airport like FLL where there's a crunch of inexperienced flyers clogging up the lines. But logistically the airport is solid. It's just crowded at times.

Inaugural DFW-KEF leaves tonight as AA232.

Looked it up and it seems there’s a planned stop in BGR at 1:10am. Lol. On the first flight.

757 fun.

Actually, it's now estimated to leave DFW at 1:00 a.m. and get to BGR at 5:51 a.m.
