2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)
"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.
In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. To see if you are eligible and to see what your offers are, go to https://elite.americanairlines.com/e...ewal/login.cfm
NOTE: “Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority.” - AA

Current: EXP
EQD: $9,950
EQM: 69,500
I have trips booked on AA which will get me to around $13,500 EQD and 128,000 EQM
Got a ‘buy up’ offer to Plat Pro for 2018 for $1,645.
Are they nuts or just plane dumb? If they checked my booked trips they would see that I won’t need to buy up to a lower status than I am currently at and will be requalifying for in the next two weeks!
Incidentally I have reduced my crediting to AA this year and have achieved BA Gold which is very helpful for cheap Avois redemptions on BA in Europe. Had I not done that I would have requalified for EXP in August.

Current Plat.
EQD: 8200
EQM: 60200
EQS: 12
Offered Plat Pro for 1645.
Makes no sense for me, because its still OW Saph, and I'm not US based. Rarely fly domestic anyway. If I do, I've tons of 500 miles stickers.
Rest of the year flying is going to be on Star.

I kinda want to buy it just to see what they would do...
Currently: EXP
EQD: $6,067
EQM: 57,476
EQS: 40
Offered Platinum for $265.
Seems awfully expensive considering I've already qualified for Platinum based upon my flying / spend. I might be pretty close on the EQDs at the end of the year for EXP. I wonder if I could take this offer to put me over the top...

Sorry AA but your offer is absolutely ridiculous!!
I mean how many people will actually pay that?! maybe less than 10%
Current EXP, EQD $6k, EQM 57k... Offer for Plat Pro $1,760!!
Honestly for a little more I can qualify again for EXP!

AA: Optimistic or desperate, or both?
I am a long standing ExecPlat with about 120,000 EQM and 10,500 EQD earned so far in 2017; only 10 of the 12 months in the year have passed so far.
Yet AA solicited me to extend my ExecPlat status into 2018 by paying them only $1,850
So are they optimistic, desperate or both?

Currently EXP, $9,218 EQD, 99,900 EQM (seriously). Offered EXP in 2018 for $2,899. Ha! Yeah right AA. If I was going to spend that much to buy up the EQD, I'd take a quick MR in J on a partner airline for half (or less) of the buyback price. Should hit EXP anyway with upcoming and end of year flying.

I'm a 100% self-funded traveler who flies only on cheap tickets. Apparently, given the cost of my buyback offer, I am the kind of flyer who AA wants to jettison.
The meager EQD I earned was on flights (mostly to Asia) to use up the remainder of my SWUs. I've since status-matched over to DL and AS, and from now on, I will choose whichever flights make the most sense.

I'd like to add to this, because I feel slapped in the face by AA. I fly far less than you and most of the people on FT, but I still spend a few thousand a year on airline tickets and even cross the oceans sometimes.
Over the past 2 years, I received about 8 emails all allowing me to purchase Gold status for $649. A few emails even had $100 discount, so $549. I never accepted the offer. Today I received a similar email, except the price wasn't disclosed, I had to log in to see my personalized offer. Given that I have flown 14,000 miles on AA in the past 6 months, including a cross-country flight earlier this week, I thought perhaps AA was sending a tempting offer. Instead, the Gold upgrade was over $2,000!
Now, how does this pricing structure get justified internally? Does AA assume I am too stupid to remember the earlier offers? Do they think I am more desperate? Do they think their service has suddenly improved so much as to justify a 4x increase in price? F--- these jerks.

Looking at some of the other offers posted, it may be determined by the amount you are short on EQD's. Seems AA wants the full dollar amount spent, one way or the other.

It’s all a formula for the initial offer. U should know this as u said that u have received these in the past.
If you do not value it, just move on!
