2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)

"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.

In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. To see if you are eligible and to see what your offers are, go to https://elite.americanairlines.com/e...ewal/login.cfm

NOTE: Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority. - AA

List of members' offers for 2018 program year to be added below. See end for 2016 offers.

List current status, EQD & EQM / EQS, $ required for buyback or boost and status offered:

PP is worthless. I had it for a good amount of the year. The only difference is a higher priority and free stickers over 500 miles if they clear. I missed some upgrades on 12J E75's and CR9's at times.

Use the money to buy some J where you get double or triple EQM's. That's how I made EXP this year on only 77 domestic segments.

The question is for a 25-40 segment flier (i.e. those not likely to make EXP), is PP more valuable than Platinum.

For me, it'd be the added bonus only. I fly mostly mainline routes that are tough upgrades. If I flew a lot of thinner routes over 500 miles, being a PP over a PLT would likely clear more upgrades at no cost.

I had plenty of EQDs for EXP but was 9 segments short. Checked today and they still wanted $1,699. Certainly not worth it to me. I wouldn't have a chance to use the SWUs this year anyway.

Buy up offer to PLT is $1,295

I changed careers late last year and travel dropped precipitously. Sadly, EXP will no longer be in the cards.

Question: Once my next/last planned trip and AAviator spend bonus EQD posts, I will end up over the $9,000 EQD mark. Forgive me if I'm missing it, but I can't see anyone that's been offered PPR if they have the EQD but are well short on EQM (admittedly, I'm pretty lopsided). Might I see an offer for PPR with $9K+ EQD and ~35K EQM?

One complicating factor is that I've just crossed the threshold for an AAviator card $3K EQD bonus--no idea if it will post before the end of December. I suppose if not, it won't be a factor. Anyone with similar experience that can share how it was handled by AA?
As of this morning, the expected $3K EQDs haven't posted yet--understand that if it posts before Jan 31 it will count for last year, but still wondering if EQD spend over PP threshold will yield a PP buy-up offer. Any evidence of this being the case (anecdotal or otherwise)?

Thanks!

Does AA ever give complementary status of any level for high EQDs even without making EQM/EQS? Had $9,500 EQD last year but only 26,000 EQM. I've heard of UA bumping people to their equivalent of AA's Platinum for a certain level of spend, regardless of missing the flying requirements. I'm guessing AA doesn't ever do that, and don't expect them to, but wanted to check.

I'm also curious of the retroactive posting of Barclay Aviator EQDs has led to any price reductions on buy-ups/buy-backs in the last week? My EXP offer hasn't changed despite the additional $3k EQD, and now being well above the $12k EQD EXP minimum for 2017.

PPRO buyup - $1795

Unfortunately my company migrated to DL as the preferred airline. So I will suck it up over at DL as a new PLT. While I know I have no hope ever of getting even a C+ upgrade, EVER. Schedule and pricing is what rules the day now. Maybe I will give it another go to EXP should something change. I shall miss AA. All segments save one - upgraded with-in the 100 hours and SWU cleared immediately.

PP also gets you a higher RDM multiplier.

My second Aviator $3k EQD bonus, which I met spend on in mid December, recently back-posted to December 31. In the days since then, theres been no change to my buy-up offer. Im Platinum and had already cleared the EQD requirement for Platinum Pro, so my guess is that if youve already hit the minimum for a given tier requirement measure, excess earning of that measure wont affect your offer.

That makes sense. I'm more curious about someone whose retroactive Aviator EQD posting pushed them over the status EQD threshold, yet they still needed more EQM. Prior to this month, the net effect was that EQDs were lowering the buy-back/buy-up offer (up until they reached the minimum EQD required for that status level). So far, we have not yet seen any reports of the buy-back/buy-up offers being reduced for these late posting EQD adjustments. Might just be a good datapoint to have for future years, especially if late posting credit card spend proves disadvantageous to participate in these offers.
