2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)
"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.
In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. A few weeks ago, I had $5500 EQD and 42k EQM. Buy up to Plat offer was $695. Now I have $5967 EQD and 52k EQM. Just got another offer....for $695 
I've got a short domestic flight that will easily put me over the 6k EQD, and for much less than $695.

MH is pretty good, flew their A380 in F (sold as J) from KUL-NRT. They delayed one of my checked bags for 6 days, which was a bummer.

Had an offer back in early November when I was Platinum. I was already well over the EQD's for PP but needed about 8 more EQS's and my offer was $995 ( I think ). I didn't need it since I had enough travel to get to PP without it. I have since made PP and just got an offer yesterday for EXP that was for $2,495. I am currently sitting at $15,599 EQD, 67,512 EQM, and 104 EQS's. Traveling every week in December so I will get EXP without needing the offer. Not sure I would have felt the need to spend that much money for the next level if I didn’t have any additional travel.

Just got an offer for PP for $1375. I've already got travel booked that'll put me over that level by the end of the year, so no thanks.

I am a multi-year EXP, live time plat, with:
73900 EQM approx
16500 EQD approx
60 some eqs
I was offered Plat Pro for 995. I rechecked so see if this was a mistake. It wasn't. I will requalify as EXP, but one would think that over 16K in spending would result in a more reasonable Plat Pro offer. Posting is apparently also slowing down. I flew the miles on Monday which would put me at Plat Pro, but they are not yet posted. My spending by the time I get close to EXP will be over 21K, but I expect an equally unacceptable EXP offer.

When do EQDs post?
I have the first leg of a roundtrip flight on 12/31. 50% of the fare will meet my remaining EQD for the year. Will my EQD's not accrue until the roundtrip is complete or will the fare for each leg accrue after it has been taken?

It's accrued after the leg has been flown. I have a round trip TATL flight in F over the holidays. The outbound flight gets me over the Plat threshold for next year and the return makes a good dent in re-qualifying for the year after that.

Any guesses or intel on whether or not AA will lower the price of the offers as we get closer to the July 18 purchase deadline?
It makes sense that they would since by summer next year the benefit period will be almost halfway over.

I've had multiple op-ups with BA and CX in the past 2 years as OWE... as recently as two weeks ago from DXB-LHR from PE to J (and it was done at check-in, not at the airport). My wife and I got a pair of op-ups from J to F on BA's A380 last autumn as well.
The CX FA's have always gone out of their way, even in PE to recognize my status and greet me personally. BA? Meh, not so much. At least they make a decent cup of tea and aren't grouchy like half of AA's international FA's.

Offer received Monday when my stats were slightly lower than above, $1,295. I have 10 segments booked before the end of the year.
Wouldn't consider it even if it looked worthwhile because I was farther from requalifying. EXP diminished greatly in value this year for this segment flyer, I have no interest in chasing after it.
