2018 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of EOY 2017)

"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.

In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer was extended for the 2017 programme year, and the 2018 offering is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers. To see if you are eligible and to see what your offers are, go to https://elite.americanairlines.com/e...ewal/login.cfm

NOTE: “Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority.” - AA

List of members' offers for 2018 program year to be added below. See end for 2016 offers.

List current status, EQD & EQM / EQS, $ required for buyback or boost and status offered:

Last week I was at 14k EQD, 71k EQM and AA sent me an email with a link indicating I could buy into Platinum Pro for either $1199 or $1299 (can't recall which). I had a few intl flights this week that bring me to 87k EQM, so I clicked on that same link to see if there was an updated offer. No updated offer, in fact it says "Our records show that you're not eligible to receive an offer at this time."

I'll hit EXP before year end, so all a moot point.

Currently:

EQDs: 8,519
EQMs: 92,414
Segments: 50

I received an offer for:

$665.00 for PltPro.
I have Prem. Econ. round trip to Asia at end of Nov. This should put me to PltPro next year.

$3,635.00 for EXP
Prem. Econ. round trip to Asia plus 3,000 EQDs from Berclay Aviator credit card should put me to EXP next year.

Conclusion, does not look as I need these offers.

Agreed. I am short 130 EQD (but have 116k EQM). My buy-up was 225 USD.

Which IMO feels very reasonable to the average person. We must remember that on FT, we are a teeny tiny minority. If my uncle got this offer, he'd take it no questions asked - us FTers who fly for fun would rather fly.

I agree, that is an exceptionally reasonable offer. I could see all sorts of reasons to take them up on that, even if you had EXP in the bag later this year it would be justifiable in some circumstances (need that SWU now as one).

My offer as $1245 for EXP with 114 EQS, 88k EQM, and $14k spend.

Already book through 128 EQS and if i was not I could snag some pretty cheap turns to MIA or DCA to make the threshold.

Pretty laughable really.

My wife just got an offer for PP for $995. She has 74,108 EQM, 12,816 EQD and 20 EQS but 1,970 EQM hasn't posted from a flight we took this morning so this offer not useful.

She doesn't have enough planned travel for the EQM she needs so a good candidate for a mileage run or possibly a status buy to EXP. Just not sure either will be worth it.

So i started thinking through this. I will be close. EQD will be about 14k, EQM about 98000. Will see what the offer is. 90% of my flights include Mrs. boerne on the PNR so she inherits my status. She is always with me on TATL/TPAC flights. We had 3 international irrops this year, and the treatment as a OWE was very clearly better than the OWS people around us. So if I buy up, I am buying up for 2 people, not one. I do not have time to do a MR before Dec 31. So I am looking at this as a fairly cheap version of trip insurance. Also if I buy up on Jan 1 it goes toward my 2018 Citi WMCE spend. And....

Plus, your purchase price will count toward your Rolling Elite Qualifying Dollars, helping improve your upgrade priority.

I already have 4 long hauls on the books in 2018, so it would be nice to be protected better than average. Discuss and disparage as usual.

Currently plat, stayed out of AA entire year. 3 0s on the metric.
699 to Gold.
1299 to Plat.
Basically cabin extra + free bags is the only merits, worth $1299?

For appox 24k EQM I think it's gonna be a challenge. RT from DFW to HKG in J will make it, but will be pretty expensive.

interesting. I thought 85k was the cutoff for EXP offers. maybe they moved it to 90k this year.

Might have been some lag time - I just checked the link again and now I have an EXP offer for $2495.

Anticipate I'll hit EXP by the first week of December, with ending EQD of about $18k, probably 110k EQM, and another 12-15 flights before year end - meaning I worked my butt off for the EXP, and while I'll hit it without having to do it the painful way of segment by segment, that's still a ton of flights.
