This doesn't seem like good service.
This sounds like proactive service with the FA anticipating and preparing the forward lavatory to meet upcoming passenger needs.

I recall, in Japan, entering restaurants and being immediately walked back out by the waiter. The purpose was to select from the models of food in the window.

I got here too late to be the first to say that.

LOL, k. In my somewhat limited experience flying AA, I've already encountered worse service than during my years of flying NW as an elite. But sure.

On a morning flight a while back the FA came to each passenger with the two meal choices plated and wrapped in plastic wrap and asked which we wanted. Very homey, but WTH.

He was noticeably unfriendly and not smiling or anything. He was terse.

A picture of the meal choices would be helpful, but what the FA showed around in this case was just their galley instructions. It's not meant to be shared with pax. One of the advantages of serving First Class from the cart was the ability to see the entrees before selecting.

Brusque, snotty FAs are not helpful in any circumstances.
