oops. My bad. The original article didn't list the destination, so I wrongly assumed

This seems to have been on DCA-DFW, a route where AA mostly uses A320/A321 aircraft. The bulkhead row in these (what she had been assigned) is indeed not really suitable for large animals.
Looks like there were a few uninformed AA staff and a pilot who made a knee-jerk decision.
This will generate some negative press for AA, and it looks like rightfully so.
