Time for some housekeeping...

The old "why are AA fares so expensive/non-competitive thread has been archived here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...solidated.html

We will use this thread for discussion 2017-onwards. Thanks!

[Original thread title: "Whats going on 11-12 Mar 2017 weekend? Scarce, expensive seats"]

This weekend flights are full and super expensive on all airlines, especially American. Anyone know why?!

Makes sense. I am trying to go to FLL to see family. Bad timing. Lol. I can get back for $190 on the 13th but other than walking or driving. No way to Ft Lauderdale for reasonable miles or $$

Maybe try PBI and drive the 30 miles to Fort Lauderdale area?

We had a discounted award (the CC reduction) SFO-PBI on the 6th. Daytona Beach was crowded as some colleges had an early break. Either that or they were just warming up for the official Spring break week.

Spring break is anywhere from 2/11 till 4/15, depending what school you go to.

There's a period of mid February (around President's Day) where a lot of schools are out for winter break.

Then early March through the week after Easter is Spring Break time, but there is no set week. I know where I live, two school districts are off next week, others the following week.

Basically if you want cheap during that time, I would look elsewhere than Florida.

Some of my basic AA runs get pricey this time of year too because the Dallas segments get booked up. A lot of people from here go to South Texas for Spring Break, so the first hop is DFW if they're flying AA.

Aside from traditional Spring Break party scenes, you can also run into various NCAA hoops sites. Conference tourneys this weekend, first rounds of March Madness next weekend. When those are in huge cities like Chicago, it's not a big deal. But when KC hosts, it truly jacks everything up for a few days. Getting out of here on the Sunday after Big XII is very pricey.

I'm flying to DCA next week. That route seems unaffected...I have my usual $190 R/T that I typically get if I plan ahead. Guess the Maryland beaches are still a little chilly for Spring Break.

Got 2 FC seats from HTS > CLT >MIA next Friday for $750 total, mind you only CLT >MIA is FC. So around 375 each I think coach was 349 or something.

2 $334.89 USD + taxes

And sadly there aren't any good DFW-PBI-NRT hidden-city opportunities...
