Did you request miles?
I had no problem getting ORC (RDM, and EQM, EQS) when I had the same situation, but that was years ago when I was flying SJC-LAX-SNA instead of the SJC-SNA nonstop.

That's pretty brilliant. I've got that insurance and have never really had to use it, wouldn't even likely have crossed my mind in this type of situation.

Always helpful to have another set of eyes on a situation.

A few years back I had a complicated long haul trip go pear shaped due to AA delays and I bailed midjourney. I requested the miles for the flights i didn't take and received them, then I requested a refund and got that too (albeit in a voucher.)

Yes I requested to be credited for the segment and miles, and received a non-canned response that they only credited flights that were actually flown. I probably could have appealed but it wasnt worth the time to me.

It saved me a bundle when I had to cancel a Euro vacation last year because of medical issues.
There was a bit of paper work/delay however-just be prepared for that.
