Just made EXP / Executive Platinum! Resources, ask questions, brag (2017+)

First, a hearty welcome to Executive Platinum status!

New Executive Platinum members, whether "self-made", via your Concierge Key nomination or made by AA offers, including challenges, to similar status holders from competing airlines, often have questions about how the program works.

Feel free to post your questions here, but also be aware many of your questions about American Airlines, AAdvantage and Executive Platinum status can be answered in these resources:

I had to make that decision as well. I decided to go for the extra 2 SWUs. I'll end up around 170K EQM and $20K EQD I think.

But I'm starting to wonder if I should have grabbed Star Gold with UA instead... because I won't even use any of my 4 SWU's this year. Too many good, cheap deals on WT+ w/Avios upgrades on BA.

Requalified two days ago 200 miles after departing HNL bound for LAX

EQDs: 17,008
EQMs: 105,961
EQSs: 63

tidbit on upgrades:

missed four (BOS-JFK; JFK-SFO; DFW-SFO; LAX-HNL) Each time I was from #1 to #4 on the UG list. Not bad odds for me (94% success rate!!), I think my odds are so high as I do tend to buy tickets within 96-48 hrs. before the flight departs (M and H fares).

Definitely a grind...I have about another 40 segments planned this year. Wish I could pass them to next year like I can for Marriott days.

My last trip on CX posted on Saturday bringing me over 100,000 miles and 12k EQD. SWUs were already there as well.

I have been "deferring" as much travels as possible until 2018 since I made EXP last month. But the trips keep rolling in!

I just completed a SFO-DFW-SAT-DFW-SFO trip with 1 night stays at each point ex-SFO. My segment count will be 63. I can't imagine making EXP via segments at EQDs. Wow!!

Just requalified for EXP (just north of $12K/100K right now), with additional trips this year, so hopefully will reach 150K EQM to get additional SWUs. Would like to again thank the many experts on this forum for helpful advice!

I'll be making EXP for the first time ever on 09/12 on LAX-SEA. (already hit the EQD, but a little short on the EQM, so doing a quick MR) How long will it take for the status to change, and for SWUs to hit the account? I have a LAX-HKG 09/18, and am hoping to use it for that flight (pending C space).

For me flights on AA metal/ticketed typically post 24-48 hours after taking the flight, and the status update happened concurrently with those postings. SWUs either posted same day as the status change or next day. You should be able to get your request in for Hong Kong, and now that rolling EQD is the priority - if you don't clear right away you won't be hurt by the late request as you would've in years past
