I was able to redeem one today at booking..stop the presses!

Of course it was from DTW-PHX on 5/28. Yay!

I confirmed a SWU on FRA-DFW at booking just a few days ago. It's not unheard of.

I agree with that too. Since starting this tread 2 months ago I could not confirm an SWU on anything meaningful so I burned them on MIA-EWR. Many flights were wide open in domestic business and still has zero C inventory. Transatlantic flights only had selective J to F upgrades and Y to J did not exist excluding some morning flights to LHR for months on end.

I have discarded several Business Extra upgrades as well. The international ones rarely work the domestic ones are better somewhat. I simply gift gold status or Admirals Club benefits. Flight benefits are speculative.

The often stated facts regarding the lower prices of premium cabins and the resulting inability to get both award and upgrade seats is spot on. How many flights have you been on where the upgrade wait list is 30+ deep? I see that routinely and not just on the popular routes or hub to hub services.
