Earning EQMs during diversions
A few months ago, I was flying ORD-EGE. Due to weather at EGE, we were in a pattern for a while then diverted to SLC, where we spent an hour on the ground and later took off back to EGE. I later checked my app and found that I was credited the amount of miles for ORD-EGE and one segment, which is fine, but out of curiosity, would there be any kind of diversion situation in which passengers would earn miles for miles flown on the actual routing and not just origin to destination?

As long it's the same flight, you will only earn miles based on the original flight, even if it diverts.
However if there are cancellations and rebookings, then one could certainly earn more based on the new flights.
For example, if your ORD-EGE flight diverted to SLC and then cancelled, and you were rebooked SLC-LAX-EGE, you would still earn miles for ORD-EGE, SLC-LAX, & LAX-EGE.
