AA repricing award ticket for changing from non-OW to OW partners?

I had a pre deval award ticket for AMM-AUH-LAX all on Etihad. When I tried to route through Doha with Qatar, the AAgent told me the ticket would be repriced. I suspect it's probably because I changed from a non-OW partner to a OW partner, but I couldn't find this information anywhere. Is my assumption correct? If so, anyway I can get around this restriction?

You are changing the cities pairs and/or carriers. Standard operating procedure to reprice. Normally not an issue when mileage values hasn't changed. But tons of threads showing this ... booked predeval being reprice when passenger tries to change the ticket.

Only way to not be reprice is to not change your cities or carrier...date change should be free of charge if inventory is still available.

It's correct that your origin and destination airports must remain the same - however, I believe carrier and intermediate connection points (number/location) can change without triggering a re-price.

So in your case, if you want QR on the longhaul DOH-LAX, only way I can think of to get around this would be to include an extra connection on EY on the way to DOH, along these lines:

AMM-AUH (EY)
AUH-DOH (EY or QR)
DOH-LAX (QR)

Hard to see how that would be desirable, but if you are date/availability constrained, it's one way to try saving a few miles...

See the Wiki and posts in this thread for award repricing info. Within limits it is possible to change carriers and routings without triggering a redeposit/reprice event.

That assumption, as it stands, verbatim, is not correct. There is, in fact, a complicated mesh of in some cases contradictory rules that agents face when asked to change pre-devaluation awards (or for that matter carrier changes on awards where pre-deval is -not- even an issue.)

Change is governing carrier is mentioned in several places and in some places theres a section that can be read as providing an exception for same if the change is from OneWorld carrier -> OneWorld carrier. As Ive mentioned several times, AA.com -and- one of the main internal documents state that change in governing carrier-- regardless of what change-- dictates redeposit, but, OneWorld-> OneWorld clearly has the the highest chance of success-- some here have had success there.

So, another call -might- yield a different answer, but, since it's a bit of an unclear minefield, I'd advise against trying this particular change.
