Better on Wait List with BXP or mileage?

Better on Wait List with BXP or mileage?
I am on a flight and have 2 friends I want to upgrade. Am I better giving them a BXP upgrade on the waiting list or offering miles for an upgrade? Have received 2 different answers from American. TIA

It shouldn't matter. With BXP or miles+copay you are waitlisting for the same fare class (C).
