AA Executive Platinum: Revenue Contribution to AA

I am about to requalify to Executive Platinum for 2017, status that I reached last year (2015) when AA decided to match ULCC's on most routes where they compete. I went through all my receipts and calculated total amount payed to AA (2015 and 2016), EQM's and actual miles flown:

Calendar Year: 2015
Number of Segments: 73
Miles Flown: 97,147
EQM's: 107,147
Total Spent (Revenue to AA including taxes): $3,792.36

Calendar Year: 2016
Number of Segments: 57
Miles Flown: 87,358
EQM's: 95,143 (4,857 miles short of requalifying to EP this year)
Total Spent (Revenue to AA including taxes): $3,082.43

With the recent changes to the AAdvantage program (revenue based) and the announced EQD's, I will not requalify next year unless AA announces minimum spend on a cobranded credit card to exempt EQD's. I am not planning to requalify for 2018, but I will take the most advantage of being an Exec Plat until January 2018.

My question to other flyertalkers, how much revenue did you give AA to get Executive Platinum?

Pretty simple, but AA has no interest in your EXP business. Their EQD plan and RDM since August makes that pretty clear.

Your ability to find cheap fares is admirable. I hope you are flying based on need and not chasing miles or status anymore.

There is no need to show-off how low or high is your spending. Low spenders are getting affected the most and high spenders will benefit especially with more RDM.

About 2/3 of my travel in terms of EQM this year are in the 0.07-0.09 EQD range, including some good A fares where I can earn double EQM. But the rest of them are shorter-notice client trips which are anywhere from $0.18 to $0.50/EQM - a typical trip from one of those is one I'm taking next week, 2000 EQM for $750 all-in, so probably 700 EQD.

$6,318 (which would probably be closer to 7,000 since taxes don't count for EQD). So it's not just 12k, closer to 13-14k.

Just checked my spreadsheet. So far I got 43 segments this year, 94k miles flown and 184k EQM.

Total revenue to AA/BA: 27k.

i did 3 of those $450 trips to south asia earlier in the year. Coupled with two other trips to asia in the $630 range, so I re-qual'd for EXP by end of April with about $2500 in spend. Since then, I've flown AA only once to Asia and credited it to Etihad and have one more planned later this year to burn up my remaining SWUs.

Sounds like you're occupying space that AA could be offering to paying customers. I'm sure an AAgent will be happy to walk you over to the Southwest/Spirit ticket desks.

I spend 40K+ a year on AAk, almost exclusively international business class. I don't track EQM or EQS, I just book the flights I need. I would believe that AA is looking for EXPs with spending characteristics similar to mine rates than yours.

Quite honestly I am conflicted about people who are able to "game the system" to get EXP for very little. I admire their ingenuity but hate that I a competing against them with my SWUs.

Asia to LAX on either AA metal or codeshares, starting from CGK, NRT or HKG.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. Up until recently, it has been run like a game. But with the new rules, it's strictly business.

+1

No need to envy people who know how to calculate cpm/eqcpm, until we see the day that miles are gone and everything is based on $ only.

How would this sound:

Gold - 4,000$
Platinum - 8,000$
PlatPro - 12,000$
ExPlat - 16,000$

And no matter how many miles. Sadly I think this might be the future.

I think I'm at about 20k for this year, but I expect next year to be closer to 12k.

And this is based on what?

If someone said 5-10 years ago that we're going to have RDM's per $ and minimum spend for status, everyone would have laughed.
