There is also a Plaza Premium Arrivals Lounge you can access for free if you have Priority Pass or an AMEX Platinum.

I stand corrected.

Unfortunately it closed down earlier this month due to terminal 2 construction

Having flown this route like 12 times now has anyone else noticed that HKG-LAX always has significantly more turbulence than LAX-HKG?

About to descend now into LAX and man this flight has been bumpy for the almost the entire last 9 hours, just like almost ALL of my HKG-LAX flights.

I was on my LAX-HKG-LAX flights 3 weeks ago and experienced moderate turbulence indeed. It just so happened that on the HKG-LAX leg, after deplaning at the remote station the pilots were seated adjacent to me. At some point, a passenger asked the pilots why was it so turbulent. There came a hush in the bus as everyone was eager to hear the reply.

Long story short, the senior pilot says that March and November are the times when the polar winds change into three (Witch?) belts and it's the transiting of the plane between them that causes such turbulence. Something about the tilting of the earth during the change of seasons makes this phenomenon occur off the coasts of Japan and North America.

Let's just say that the turbulence was bad enough that I was wishing the plane would land and I'd be happy being on the ground for a while.

Awesome info!

We were towed into Gate 41 at T4 so we had NO line at Customs and Immigration! Must be my lucky day!

In the Qantas First Lounge now for the next couple hours waiting for my connecting flight home!

Enjoy QFL... I always make it a point to be there even if it's just for a martini and a quick bit to eat as I'm often trekking there from the Nest upon arriving from SFO. But lately I've been lucky to have an plane that actually gates at T4 upon arriving from SFO. And it's a giving I'm there upon arriving from HKG for sure!!

One interesting thing I recall now that the senior pilot mention was something about the constant updates that are needed to me made in real-time for the wind prediction models. And the mere fact that one is relying planes ahead/behind by a mere 1000 (vertical) feet of separation that are also updating the models as well. WOW!!

At one point he said we were able to go above one band and ended up in the middle of another one before we just had to "rough it out" on finding smooth skies when we got to the third one. I just wanted off the plane after my Woodford and mid flight meal got launched off my tray!

Barely made AA193 yesterday from a delayed JFK-LAX flight after needing to recheck my bag with a 15m to bag drop closing, only for the crew to time out right before takeoff and have the flight delayed until 1pm the next day. My streak of flying this route and not having one of the 12h+ delays is unfortunately over. Though disappointed I’m missing a day of plans I had, I was able to have my SWU’d reservation on AA endorsed to CX F on the 11am flight. ^

But zero chance my bag makes it.

CX F vs AA F is a big win. Hopefully you paid with a card that has baggage delay protection and you can do a little shopping spree when you get there.

Definitely a big win, though I had to wait standby at the CX checkin desk in TBIT until T-35 to be cleared. The flight was oversold in W and J, but (thankfully for me) a few folks misconnected, they op-up壇 a few from J to F, and there was one F seat left. Had to be escorted through security to make boarding.

Unfortunately it was paid for on the Citi/AA Exec card which, AFAIK, has no delayed baggage insurance . I知 hoping traveling on a full-fare J ticket (in F) and as a OWE will net me some sort of comp from the CX baggage desk at HKIA, though I知 not expecting anything. I知 continuing onto CNX with KA tomorrow and just hoping AA/CX gets my bag there within a day.

When I致e been transferred fo CX in this situation (discount J with an Op Up) the CX ticket actually ended up being a full fare F when it credited to BA. So hopefut they値l view you as full fare F when dealing with your baggage too. Although I知 not too familiar with CX痴 delayed baggage policies.
