Boeing 757-200 CIP with Rockwell Collins Aerospace Diamond Parallel J seat

The first AA Boeing 757-200 with 16 Rockwell Collins (B/E Aerospace) Diamond Parallel seat in business class entered service on September 1, 2016. These replaced the "NGBC" seats used in the "75L" transatlantic 757, and the B/E Aerospace / Rockwell Collins Diamond seat is the same used in the A321T three class transcon in business class.

The Diamond shell seat in the horizontally flat position is not quite long enough for tall people. Those over six feet /183 cm will find they need to sleep in a drawn up legs. The window side seat foot well is narrower than the aisle seat foot well, and the window side will not accommodate two large (13 or European 46) size feet. Window seat passengers will have to step over the aisle seat passenger if that person is sleeping reclined flat.

See the American Fleet Site (not AA affiliated) here for state of fleet conversion.

The new configuration is 16 Business, 160 combined (108) Main Cabin and (52) Main Cabin Extra seats. There are 24 remaining (all Legacy American Airlines) 757-200s converted to the “75L” “international” version.

(There are 10 Legacy US Airways “East” 757-200s converted to 12F/176Y (including MCE) Hawaii service aircraft, based in PHX.) All other AA 757-200s have been withdrawn from AA service.

There is no in seat AVOD or WiFi served IFE installed on these planes (tablets are distributed to Business passengers along with B&O noise-reducing headsets on International flights).

In flight Panasonic satellite-based WiFi is offered for a fee.

The seat in Y have been reupholstered with "pleather", a plastic-based simulated leather.

J has two 5 1.1 amp VDC USB ports and 110 VAC universal power ports at each seat. MCE has power.

757 JFK-ST

AA has 757s on flight 936 JFK-St. Thomas. Are those internationally configured?

Look at the business class section on the seat map. If it has 4 rows it's the international config; if it is 6 rows it's the domestic config.

Does anyone know if the 757s between JFK/MIA are internationally configured with the new seats?

N186AN, the last 75L with the slanted seats, has flown into TUL to receive the new B/E Diamond seats. If I'm not mistaken, this is the last 757 to receive the new interior.

I'm pretty sure on this given that all previous 757s were in TUL for 10-15 days as that is what apparently the time was for taking out the old seats in both cabins and replacing them and I think new side walls.

I usually use the American Fleet Site to track this, which is way behind. They are only retrofitting the former 16J NGBC 75L's, right? The 24F (and the couple 22F left) 757's are eventually being retired, correct?

The 757 fleet is being heavily pared down this year with only 34 757s remaining by the end of the year. A few non-75Ls were converted, but that may be only to cover some of the former LUS 757 international routes. The remaining LAA domestic 757s will be parked this year and I suspect the LUS 757 that have not been converted to a domestic configuration for PHX-Hawai'i will be parked as well. Eventually, maybe as early as next year, the LUS 757s on PHX-Hawai'i are scheduled to be replaced by the 737-8 MAX.

Bit Confused

On Thursday, March 30, AA #1190 from DFW to CUN was a 752, but the seats had AVOD. The seats were not the newer seats I have flown on the LAX-JFK transcon.

What was I on, and are those planes being parked / refurbished?

That would be the old NGBC seat which is being replaced by the B/E seat. However, if true (I have no reason to doubt you), that means that N186AN isn't the last 757 to be refurbished, as N178AA (the plane you were on) still has the old seats.

Thanks for the prompt reply! Thought I was losing my mind.

I know it was a 757, and I remember the seat from previous flights out of JFK to MIA. But, when I read the posting in this thread that said the "last 757 with slanted seats" flew to Tulsa for the new seats", I started to wonder if I was sleep-deprived or on another airline.

Flew JFK-EDI AA278 yesterday 4/4. Plane was N178AA. It most definitely has not been refurbished. So much for good chances

Assuming the wiki is updated (and assuming the registration for the converted A/C is N190AA, not N190AN as listed) - according to FR24, in the last week on AA936 (6 flights), 4/6 have been converted. The two non-converted flights were on the same plane, N178AA.

I took N178AA off the list. I presume most of the 75L had been converted per visits to TUL. Guess N178AA only visited for maintenance. Will monitor when N186AN re-enters the fleet after being at TUL.

You can also take N174AA off the list. Flew it EDI-JFK on 4-8 (One World Livery). Old business class seats were there...more than one held together with a whole lot of tape
