2017 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of 16 Nov 2016)

For the 2018 AAdvantage program year thread, see 2018 Program Year Elite Status Buy back / Buyback / Renew / Boost (master thd) .

"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.

In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer is extended for the 2017 programme year, and is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers.

Complied a list of people's offers here. List is current up to post #51

I, too, got an offer for $2499 this morning. Currently at 87k with a MR tomorrow and a trip to Hawaii in December that will put me over the top. It's to get to EXP, not to renew. It'll be the first and I suspect only time that I'll make EXP with the program change. And we've already booked some 2017 on Delta and Jet Blue, so I wonder how much use I'll really get out of it. But for a couple of hundred bucks, it seemed worth it to push over the top.

For the first time in 6 years I wont be hitting any status this year. Short about 12k miles due to new partner EQM rules and they sent me an offer for $649 to renew GOLD. Seeing how how everything has changed with them I may just leave for another Airline . Sucks AA you were good while you lasted.

Just got an email offer to renew my EXP status for $1,299. I'm currently at 99,174 EQM's with a trip in F from DFW to OGG this Saturday. They're casting this line out to anyone and everyone LOL.

You're probably right. USAir really pushed buying status. It was free money for them, especially if the purchaser didn't fly very much.

I'm EXP with 92207 EQM and more than enough flights scheduled to make 100K.
$2099 to keep status next year.

It doesn't seem they take in future flights even on AA tickets, I have more than enough to qualify by the end of the year and I still got the offer.

I consolidated everyone's offers in the wiki above. Interesting that at the EXP level, AA's offers are much granular compared to the past. I remenber in past years if you are above 90k EQM you got one offer and less than that, another.

Also some with high EQMs are being offered a higher amount. I think AA generated the price for EQM a while back and this offer wasn't sent out right away and some people have traveled since.

94.4k EQM offered 1799 boost to EXP. They definitely don't look at future reservations since my next flight will put me over.

This is a boost not a renewal FWIW.

Got a $499/$1299 offer for gold/plt. Currently on target to barely hit gold but probably will be airline agnostic come next year.

More data for the wiki: currently plat. About 19k eqm ytd. Not seeing much correlation between the offer and eqm though

I'm an EXP with 17,200 EQM. Offered GLD for $499 and PLT for $1479. Will probably take PLT - this year was a one off loser.

Mrs. Deac83 Plat 23k miles gold $399 Plat $1,299

With the 'improved' program, not sure the value to bump up to Plat is there anymore. With out the 100% mileage bonus, getting the 60% vs. 40% bonus on what will likely be a low fare is not as attractive.

2 vs. 1 checked bag. MCE at time of booking vs. check in.

UG's? what's the point, I'm not going to get UG's as an EXP when the dollars spent is factored in.

We are going to take a hard look at this since she'll make gold on her own. In the past the other reason to keep plat is once you get down graded you can't buy back up.

The system that sends these out wouldn't have any idea about that.

I've been PLT every year since 2011. Have done much less flying on AA this year than usual, so I only have like 14,000 EQM. Just got offered GLD for $649 and PLT for $1,299. In the past, PLT was a huge step up from GLD because of the extra 75% mileage bonus. Now that that's only 20%, what do you really get for the extra $650? Lounge access on long-hauls and partner airlines, free MCE, a second checked bag...GLD still gets priority check-in...can anyone help me try to put a value on these benefits (assuming ~50K BIS miles a year) to determine whether PLT is still worth the premium?

And might I be better off letting it lapse and then immediately Platinum Challenging, using the 150% EQM for Premium Economy on BA to complete the challenge in a single not-too-long trip?

Here are the offers received for AA accounts in our household:

1) $899 to renew PLT; currently at 44K EQM and current PLT member (myself)
2) $599 to boost to GLD; currently 19K EQM and no status member (wife)
