I cant seem to find where it was listed as 5,000 ft. In that case, HHH is likely in trouble.

Edit: I found it, but I also see that HHH will extend to 5,000 ft so service can continue with small RJs. (source- http://www.islandpacket.com/news/bus...e55917475.html)

There's currently a few projects going on at HHH to improve taxiways and remove trees a the end of the runway to allow for clearer takeoffs and landings. There's also a project to increase the field to 5,000 ft., but this wasn't slated to be complete till 2018 per the last time I was down earlier in the year.

I think that HHH's Wikipedia entry (erroneously) shows the runway length as 5,000 feet.

There are specially modified 737's that fly in and out of SDU in Brazil, where the runway length is similar to HHH's. But I doubt that HHH could generate the traffic to fill a 737.

That was probably it. AA has about 40 DH8s, so give then retirement schedule, there should be turboprops operating to HHH until the runway is extended. But unless the project drags on well past reasonable scheduling, there shouldn't be a big issue until 2019.

There is a church in the way of runway expansion <redacted> that is making expansion very difficult.

So an e145, a cr2 or cr7 should have no major issue operating. There may be some weight penalties for the field reducing capacity, but that's it.

EDIT: DL runs a 737 down there.
HHH has a 4300 foot runway with 300 foot displaced thresholds at both ends.
No way can RJ's operate there. Delta had Saab A340 service to ATL a few years ago but when the Saab's went, so did the Delta service.
The airport plan is to extend the runway in 2 stages, first to 5000 feet and then to 5400 feet.
No start date for the runway upgrade yet.

Dash 8 Overhead Bins?

Good morning,

Hard as it is for me to believe, after all my years of flying AA, but I have my first flight on one of these coming up in 2 weeks & am looking for some guidance on their overhead bin spaces. Specifically, whether my Tumi McAllen Wheeled Brief (seen here http://www.tumi.com/p/mcallen-wheele...uUYaAh7p8P8HAQ will go up? It goes up, wheels out, on the ERJ's, if that's any help.

Many thanks!

I suspect that your "wheeled" item will be gate-checked whether it fits in an OH or not. The issue for is simply the blanket gate-check policy on some express carriers against the wheeled items.

I think your bag will fit in the overhead...however Often1 is spot on (with one minor quibble...I think you'll be able to leave it plane-side.)

I have never measured, but after a decade of flying on these, my instinct tells me it's a no if the bag is in fact 15.5" by 17" and rigid. I've never tried to stow anything in a DH3 bin that couldn't be mashed to fit.

And I agree with the previous posters that an AAgent will likely mandate that you check it planeside and not even try to stow it.

Where did rear-facing seats 1D/1F go on the Bombardier Dash-8?

Where did rear facing seats 1D/1F go on the Dash-8?

It's be ages since I've been on AA's Dash-8. I could swear there used to be row 1 that was rear-facing(towards row 2 on the right side)

I was just selecting my seat on an upcoming flight on AA's Dash-8 and there was no row 1 at all.

They have them on the -300s but not on the -100s or -200s.
