Fruit For Delayed Flights
Walking to my gate today in MIA I noticed a flight going to DCA was 3 hours late and there were boxes of fruit set out at the gate. Has anyone seen this before? Fruit given out to delayed paxs at the gate?

I've seen Delta do this on delayed flights, would be a nice touch is AA started doing this ^

Lucky them. I was on a 10 hour delayed flight yesterday that ended up being cancelled at 2am. Not even a crap was given by AA, much less fruit.

A piece of fruit is all very well but in the EU significant flight delays result in cash for the pax concerned (as long as they know how to push the airline to pay up...)
That said, something's better than nothing... |
Its standard practice now.
A 2 hour delay gets fruit, chips, and water. 3+ gets sandwiches and soda, plus the aforementioned stuff. I was at JFK and saw sandwiches out for the delayed ZRH flight. Its a nice way to placate customers. |

AA should have given proactive Woodford to all the ops people who had to deal with that mess. |

I lol'd
I guess they missed the memo at DFW during all the WX last weekend. Flights were either cancelled or delayed more than three hours, and nothing (not even information) was given to customers. It started as an experiment at JFK and was said to hopefully expand next to LAX and eventually other stations if all worked well. I don't believe it has expanded to DFW yet. The complimentary drinks/food are in lieu of the food vouchers that (theoretically) used to be handed out for extensive delays. |

I'll take reliable info over fruit.

Free food saves money over vouchers....... Interesting cost move. Of course, you have to assume when the food might be needed - I guess they turn to AA's weather forecasters for that and hedge. If its not needed, I guess the rampers and gate agents get a freebie that day...
