Confirmed via AmericanAir on Twitter:

The complimentary Same Day Flight Change isn't a benefit for the Platinum Pro status.

I am nearly sure that I also saw it checked a day or two ago. Now not. Interesting.

Earlier, I had said it was unlikely to be offered. Then, it was checked in the table. Apparently that was a mistake. Bad deal. I am guessing it was one of those copy the EXP columns and change situations.

I may hit plat pro. With this, I get the upgrades without the stickers (which are much more difficult to earn because of the reduction in miles credited for flying), and the same day confirmed flight changes which are crucial.

Platinum just doesn't get you upgraded that much anymore. Now I can book the lowest fare for the day, 9 out of 10 times get the same day change (as opposed to 50% success rate on standby and a middle seat in row 26) , and get complimentary upgrades from the date of booking. The fare differences between a day fare and night fare can be easily $200. Between the savings on fares, and not having to buy upgrades because I don't earn them fast enough, make my $1750 back easy. Seems to me a no-brainer for my situation, IMHO.
So are you calling to get your money back now ?

Buy up to AAdvantage Plat Pro - worth it?

My friend received 88,000 EQM on American in 2016. Because the new 4 tier system doesn't start until Feb, this doesn't qualify her for Platinum Pro for 2017. However, she was offered the opportunity to "buy up" for $900. Is this worth it? Or should she ride out the year as Platinum? An additional data point: nearly 1/2 of her flights are international, which she'll fly business anyway - but the other 1/2 are coast-to-coast. Thanks.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

As this topic is already being discussed in this thread and the one on buy back, boost, etc. and this one has the greater number of posts discussing the issue, we have moved your query here.

Be sure to check the list of P+ perks in the Wikiposts at the top of the page.

Another complaint lodged...

Basically they said that the promotion was because people expressed interest in having Plat Pro starting this year. I explained our situation having earned the minimum requirements last year and was told that doesn't matter, and that this is the offer that corporate gave them.

Since it's only day one the manager said there is nothing they could do. I would assume if enough of us complain about the devaluation of our status and the actual earned miles flown last year, we may get the cost down some, but its going to require more than just a few calls.

Karl
Same boat here... 70K EQM and 109 EQS last year, and $899 offer. Raked an Aadvantage CS Agent over the coals for a better offer today, and then did the same with their manager... both indicated they had ZERO latitude to do anything to sweeten the deal (indicated that it was basically nice of them to make the offer available at all). $899 is a bit hard to swallow when I was actually closer to EP qualification then PPro using the new standard (needed 11 EQS, vs the extra 19 I had vs PPro)...

My MIL is retired from American, and always cringes when the airline has some customer service snafu like this. Could have garnered a LOT of good will with folks who have bought into the loyalty program... now they are tarnishing the loyalty of some who up until now have been dedicated customers. Contemplating free agency myself now. But, I'm responding to note that at least one more dissatisfied Platinum (me) voiced discontent today...

Offering people to buy up to PPro is not a "customer service snafu"
If you don't want to pony up the money to get it earlier than when you actually earn it later in 2017, then don't. I don't know why people think they're entitled to something or offended when offered a way to get the very thing they want. For $900 you can get your benefits such as unlimited free upgrades, what, 8-9 months early? Oh the horror.

I ended up taking the offer, I flew approx 72K miles last year and am pretty sure I will qualify for Play Pro this year on EQDs and EQMs unless anything radical changes at work. Cost $1099 to do it, but I think worth it if it comes through with some more upgrades and the extra RDM milage multiplier (planning a trip with the family next year and want to use miles for their tickets and buy mine) ... we will see if it is worth it or not.

In general the new tier is nice for me, I can get close to 75K miles on regular work/personal travel and the spend and and if need be, do some MR at the end of the year to qualify, but I was never going to hit 100K miles.

The miscommunication over the SDC benefit is pretty ridiculous. The ambiguity of the website (lack of details beyond a check box) prompted my original call to them, where a CS rep was kind of surprised about it and a Plat desk rep said it appears that PPRO does have the benefit per his training, but only at the airport. Neither could explain why the details were not written out on the site. (He also said that EXP, like CK, is somewhat of a secretive program...).

I shot AAdvantage an email for confirmation, was told that it appears to be a benefit, but that I should confirm with a Plat rep, and when I pressed for some additional assurance (important when considering spending the $$), I was told to look at the site for all the details. By then, the site had changed. I did write back saying that the internal coordination amongst AA has been poor, it's evident that PPRO is half baked, and stuff like this really shows how loyal AA is to its frequent flyers.

I do not find it to be a coincidence that the emails for the boost went out when the website was "mistakenly" updated.

It's disappointing that Platinum Pro (75,000 mile threshold) doesn't give free Same Day Change while Delta provides it from Gold on up (so at the 50,000 mile threshold).

When there are loyal customers who significantly exceeded what became the new requirements, and when the company could easily grandfather in the requirement RATHER THAN tick off a segment of their loyal customer base who view the "opportunity" to pay for something more as a slap... yes, that is poor attention to customer satisfaction (and a missed opportunity for American). Especially when they risk losing revenue from this base that would easily have recouped the cost of the comp... it's a snafu. But then, a large portion of what I do every day IS customer care...
