AA to UA at LAX question

Hi All, I'm considering a routing that connects in LAX and seeking some advice (as I've only been thru LAX a few times).

I am considering taking an AA flight ORD-LAX that arrives in L.A. at 8:01pm. I am considering then connecting to UA5021 LAX-MRY that departs at 8:55pm.
Is this pretty easy connection from AA to UA or will it be tight? I'm not sure if I'd have to re-clear security or not....if so I wouldn't even try it.

My other option is take a non-stop to SJC and drive but that is my second choice.

Thanks for any thoughts.

You won't have to reclear security as T4 and T7 are connected by a tunnel airside. BUT it is still too tight a connection.

As wrp96 says, you won't need to reclear security, but you will have a bit a hike from AA in T4 (or possibly even TBIT, though odds are much higher you will arrive T4). There are airside connections TBIT-T4 (just in case you arrive TBIT) and then a separate tunnel system T4-T5 and onward to T6. You can then connect between T6/7/8. This is not necessarily all straight forward to someone who does not know LAX, and it will certainly take some time to walk it, and this is the best case scenario assuming no delays on your ORD-LAX inbound. I would feel very uncomfortable with this tight connection.

It's a 10 minute walk. Make sure your seat ORD-LAX is towards the front and you should be fine as long as you land and get to the gate on time.

If the OP has heavy bags take the bus from T4 to T6 and then walk through the Tunnel to T7 from T6.

Thanks for the advice. I think i'll just go with the non stop to SJC as any sort of miss connect is going to screw up the weekend plans. The only reason I even considered the connection thru LAX is AA running a 788 on the route and figured the ride up front would be much nicer.

Good idea. AA domestic F isn't worth potentially ruining your weekend, even if on a 788.
