Not much information here, but a FA starting a fire is a new one for me.

I think the key point is that it was on PURPOSE and at the end of the flight. Bizarre.

Not surprisingly, the Detroit Free Press has a fairly detailed story about this:

http://www.freep.com/story/news/loca...lane/81228418/

He admitted starting the fire after concocting numerous stories false stories. He was allowed to fly back to DFW yesterday, but was seated next to someone from "corporate security" and not allowed to get up at all during the flight.

His only brush with the law was a DUI from 2014, right before he was hired by AA. Looks like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel in their search for flight attendants. Judge must have given him a choice: enlist in the army or become a flight attendant at AA . . .

No wonder FA/customer service has waned these past few years...

At least it wasn't Munchausen's

Actually the most likely time to get hired with a major blemish on your record is "right after" it happened. The information is not likely been updated in nationwide criminal databases, especially if it hasnt been to court yet. I wouldnt be surprised if AA wasnt aware of the DUI

This issue is known as "Hero Syndrome" and arson is one of the most common ways used to gain recognition.

In the end, he has been charged with "destruction of aircraft or aircraft facilities" and making false statements to authorities.

No heroic acclaim and ward for detecting and successfully extinguishing a fire, no career with AA; certainly likely his next deployment will be "three hots and a cot" and prison job - maybe the laundry or mess hall. Sad.

18 U.S. Code 32 - Destruction of aircraft or aircraft facilities... "shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years or both."

Unfortunately, I can think of at least 3 other times in the last 8 years when fa's have intentionally set fires. Perhaps more psych screening is in order....

I remember at least one recent case where the guy was only caught after he'd set a second fire.
