Ever-changing schedule

Hi - we (Mrs CKBA and myself) booked a trip with AA Baltimore-Vancouver (BWI-YVR) a few weeks ago - so far we're on our 6th schedule change! While I appreciate that schedules do change, 6 seems a little excessive.

In addition, AA have put us on a later WestJet YYZ-YVR flight for no apparent reason - at first I though it was that the YYZ-YVR had been retimed, but no, AA just put us on a later flight (okay, the connecting flight changed from arriving at 09:22 instead of 09:08 for the WestJet flight at 10:34 - now moved to 12:55...).

If they changed the carrier -- AA to American Eagle, or either to WestJet -- you have leverage in the form of being allowed to cancel without penalty. Ask AA for the specific flights you want - but recognize that summer schedules aren't fixed as AA has a lot going on with route/crew optimization post-merger.

I've noticed AA makes more changes to their schedule then any other carrier...by far.

AA-WS international-domestic minimum connect time in YYZ is 75 minutes so your connection became illegal and AA had to rebook you. I would call back and see if they can change you to an AA operated flight to BWI-YVR; I am not a huge WS fan...

Ever-changing schedule

AA doesn't fly BWI-YYZ or YYZ-YVR. If the OP was always flying WestJet from YYZ to YVR, which seems the most probable reading here, he can't get rerouted to avoid WestJet now.

My guess is OP is flying BWI to PHL or JFK, then YYZ.
AA doesn't fly to YVR from any of its northeast or Midwest hubs, so seeking a reroute would greatly increase flight time. The only reasonable route all on AA is via DFW, which is still out of the way.

A single-connection in PHX or DFW is probably faster than double connecting with a 3+ hour YYZ layover, IMHO...

As some have noted, the routing is BWI-PHL-YYZ-YVR out and YVR-DFW-BWI back. The 3rd change AA made was the connection at YYZ that went from 09:08-10:34 to 09:08-12:55, three weeks later on the 4th change the connection change to 09:22-12:55 (maybe they had a premonition!).

Anyway, will phone AA and see - the better alternative is out via PHX (and Mrs & I can access the MCE/priority seats where available)....

Wow that is really excessive and extremely ridiculous! Someone must be very busy in scheduling...

While not as crazy as your experience, in the last 12 hours my brother, my sister and I (all flying this May into Miami on the same day from different cities) all had our aircraft type swapped and/or departure times altered. My brother was on the 9:00 am from LA to MIA in business class on a 777-200, he got an email last night that his aircraft switched to a 737 (😫 Not a fun plane for a transcon). I was on a 12:26 pm flight from DFW to MIA on a 767. I got an email this morning saying that the flight number changed, departure time changed by about 15 minutes and aircraft type changed to an A32B. My sister is flying from Seattle to MIA via DFW. Her morning flight from Seattle to DFW changed flight numbers and now departs about 40 min earlier. Her DFW to MIA flight changed flight numbers, remained the same departure time but was upgraded from either a 737 or A32B (can't remember but it was a single aisle) to a 777-200. I just think it's extremely strange and very maddening having AA mess around their schedule so much all at once. We depart in less than 3 months so one would've thought things would be pretty set. Just can't believe we all 3 got schedule change notices within 12 hours of each other and we're all on different flights. I'm definitely not liking the "new AA"; this hardly ever happened in all my frequent travels with the old AA. Anyone else have an insane amount of schedule changes as of late?

Typically you only see major schedule changes about 4 times a year (similar to DL and UA). But with the merger and cross fleeting, AA's having to make a lot of adjustments to flight schedules - more so than other carriers. It was similar at DL and UA as they were going through their mergers.

I would watch all itineraries carefully for schedule changes. Typically they are set in stone about a month out, but what is happening now is not typical.

That's a change of more than 60 minutes that gives you power under AA's contract of carriage, and, less specifically, DOT guidance letters to carriers on time changes. Again, do some research and ask for what you want.
