We have about 180k aa miles to use. Want to get from SLC to preferably LUX or at least FRA with them. Obviously to get to LUX it appears I have to go through LHR and get hit with the almost $300 in fees for each tix.

Are there other airline options with aa other than ba flights? Anything I can do if I change my hub to Denver? (they are relatively cheap to get to from SLC).

Would like to try and avoid using 120k miles AND spending about $900 for flights to Germany. Wanting to go during the last two weeks of December. Leave around the weekend of 12/17 and come back New Years weekend. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

sure, do not use BA to/from lhr. use aa

You could take AA from SLC to FRA via DFW. The trains from FRA to LUX should be very simple and could leave directly from the FRA airport.
