I'm scheduled to fly through CLT on Tuesday next week. I called AA just to let them know that I am willing to be re-routed through DFW to my final destination, just to free up the seats in CLT, since they will be recovering from all the disruptions, but they said they cannot do that.......I re-iterated that I wasn't trying to change any origins or destinations, I was just trying to help them out........Couldn't/wouldn't do it....
Just didn't quite make sense to me.....

Highly doubtful, unless perhaps they are in hangars. AA (and the other airlines) will get their planes out of the impact zone. There were a number of ferry flights to various airports from MIA this morning to help get the planes out. Embry Riddle University flew all of their aircraft out of harm's way earlier today too.

Trying to make changes for the 8th has been a real circus....South Florida is going to be in a state of emergency, at best, and chaos at worst. Scheduled to fly JFK-MIA, MIA-PTY on the 8th but can't get them to make changes or refund "trip in vain." Will be interesting to see how all of this plays out....looks like a weekend adventure ahead

Hurricane Matthew - Florida

Key West, Florida (EYW)
Melbourne, Florida (MLB)

Orlando, Florida (MCO)
West Palm Beach, Florida (PBI)
The change fee may be waived if you:
Are traveling on an American Airlines flight
Bought your ticket by October 4, 2016
Are scheduled to travel October 5 - 10, 2016

I find it odd that in extreme situations like this they won't let you change the destination city. No doubt many people will be affected by this; would it not be possible or in AA's interest to get pax to Western/Northwestern Florida, heck even Atlanta, if they are willing? TPA, RSW, any of the western regional airports that don't require a route through MIA?

South Florida had very little damage, some older trees were knocked down. The building codes throughout the state of Florida were strengthened after Andrew in 1992, and the plethora of storms in 2004/5. Unlike Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas we will see some damage, but not much catastrophic as has been seen in those countries. Before Andrew we used to see homes framed by 2x4's, now everything is supposed to be concrete block. Mobile homes even have stronger restrictions.
Back on topic, AA has restarted operations in MIA, but as noted above, they flew all planes possible (remember this is also a MRO hub) out of MIA before the storm, so it will take some time to get back to normal, most likely Sunday. The airport reopened at 6 am and the first arriving international flights originally scheduled for 4-6 am were delayed until past 10 am.
FLL is coming up slowly as well after the airport reopened at 11 am, and the first arrivals scheduled to come in around 12:45 pm

Cancelled OneWorld partner flight rules
:-: Hey guys,
I booked a BOS-DOH-CPT flight on QR for next summer using AA award miles. If QR cancels the flight, what happens? Would the reroute me on BA? If so, do I need to pay the high fuel charges? Or would they just refund the miles?
Thanks

I am trying to book travel into DFW for Sunday, Oct 23, 2016. Scant availability and high prices. Is something going on in Dallas? From northeast is the worst, WAS, NYC and BOS on AA.

As the issue dealt with here has been fixed by AA the same day it was reported, we will merge it into the OSO / IROPS thread (and thence to archives).

They should rebook you at no additional cost to you.

Hey everyone, my brother is currently stuck in PHL, originally booked on AA 3994 which AA.com is showing up as cAAncelled. They've rebooked him onto the next available flight tomorrow morning at 9:40 AM (AA 4451). Weather at PHL and ALB seems clear so he doesn't think it's a weather delay (probably mechanical)
Sorry if I couldn't find this anywhere, but is he entitled to compensation/a hotel booking overnight from AA? How should he go about this from the CSA at the airport?

Definitely within AA's realm of control. Whether they will pay or just provide a distressed traveler rate is up for debate. I'd ask the person who has rebooked him.
