I would never let myself in the position of a 25 minute turn around. The airlines are dreaming if they think that is acceptable. I never buy a ticket with a connection under an hour; and when there is a schedule change that puts a connection under one hour, I call to have the flight changed.

MCT for <mainline>-xLAX-SAN flights appears to be 35 minutes.

LAX and other SoCal Delays 2/17 - 2/18

Just got this email from AA about inclement weather delays with a link to this page.

Affects flights leaving or arriving in SoCal between 2/17 and 2/18.

"When severe weather or other uncontrollable events impact your flight and travel dates, you may be able to change your trip with no change fee."

I got the same. Flying JFK-LAX tomorrow evening for a long weekend, can't bring my flights forward because of other commitments and J has been booked solid for the whole day for at least 2 weeks now so nothing to move to anyways.

Whilst the reports don't look like it's normal weather for Southern California (Weather.com says they're expecting LA's highest one day rainfall total) the only impact I can imagine this having is less aircraft being able to arrive into LAX per hour or similar. Winds reported are 25-35mph from the SE which shouldn't affect LAX hugely.

Probably wouldn't normally be as big of an issue, but the problem is likely compounded by the runway construction project in addition to the aforementioned flow control during weather.

I am traveling to SAN tomorrow and got this notice... While I do expect LAX and maybe SNA for long flights (short runway) might have some operational challenges, I find it hard to believe the other airports will have issues.

Like some of you, my dates are fixed and the dates for rebooking does not work for me.

I just hope AA does not go off the hook excessively cancelling flights "proactively".

The header on the page refers to "Flooding - Southern California", which I assume means the Oroville Dam. I guess they're giving travellers the option to change plans because of the evacuation order in the area surrounding the dam, even though it doesn't impact the airports in the travel alert.

The Oroville dam is north of Sacremento, and at least at this point pretty stable. The weather waiver in Southern California is for the first of a series of storms that is going to batter California for the next week or so.

I think it is the rain not the dam.
It doesn't help that LAX already has terrible delays on runway during normal conditions because planes are always playing musical chairs as-is. There are always more planes on the ground than there are gates. So throwing any kind of deviation makes things a million times worse

Got same email, which is nice they are trying to get out ahead of things. Looks like since rain hasn't started yet they are very limited with changes (mostly date and times). I bet once it hits and things start going wrong they will allow more changes to avoid LAX altogether.

AA is delaying a ton of LAX bound flights from the east coast.

Most ORD-SNA flights were cancelled. All DFW-SNA is still operating. I presume this has to do with SNA's short runway potentially having some difficulties with the strong winds for longer flights.

SAN does not seem to be impacted by any delay yet, but the storm doesn't hit SAN until the evening.

I have SFO-LAX-HKG tomorrow (Sat) flying SFO-LAX at 7pm.

EF shows all SFO-LAX flights tomorrow blocked out and I called the EXP desk to see if they could move us up to an earlier flight in case of more IRROPS. The EXP desk said they couldnt as so many flights planned to be cancelled today.

All things considered LAX seems to be holding up well. The only airport thus far that had significant cancellation is SNA.

SAN is supposed to get the brunt of the storm soon, hopefully my flight in 2 hours won't have any issues.

I am starting to think this travel waiver is more about those originating their trips from socal rather than those going there or operational issues. From what I gather it is very dangerous to drive to/from the airports given the drainage system on the roads isn't really designed for storms like this one.

Expect Northern California - especially SFO - to have problems Monday 20 Feb.
