Updates are not on any schedule. I would expect AA to have a travel alert for MIA by the end of today. Whether they will require original booking class is unknown. If the storm turns towards MIA I would expect AA to start sending a/c out of the area. Happened to me in 2005 when there was seven paxs on a 757 to JFK. All paxs got a meal & free drinks.

I expect weather in Miami will be awful on Thursday and Friday. The AA agent I spoke with told me she has been dealing with frustrated passengers all day trying to change bookings but blocked because the waiver has not yet been posted. It will happen soon, I hope.

Keeping an eye as well since my parents are due to fly to Charleston for a wedding this weekend.
Question - Assuming an advisory gets issued, if it only covers the first flight (their round trip return flight is a week later) can you declare a trip in vein and just cancel/refund the whole thing?

Interesting that both Delta and Jetblue advisories offer refunds if the dates don't work. No mention of that with AA...

Possibly worth noting: as of mid-afternoon Wednesday, Flightaware is reporting that 24% of flights scheduled to operate out of MIA on Thursday have already been canceled (that's 24% across all airlines, not AA specific)

AA has reportedly canceled all arrivals Thursday into MIA, PBI, FLL. Limited departures will operate from those airports prior to noon only.

Trying to make changes for the 8th has been a real circus....South Florida is going to be in a state of emergency, at best, and chaos at worst. Scheduled to fly JFK-MIA, MIA-PTY on the 8th but can't get them to make changes or refund "trip in vain." Will be interesting to see how all of this plays out....looks like a weekend adventure ahead

FLL shut down at 10:30AM. Not sure about MIA or PBI but I would imagine no flights at all, particularly PBI. South Florida is starting to look like a ghost town. My first hurricane as a Floridian. I lived through Sandy in New York City. One week without power and just cold water. AA cancelled everything after mid morning or so.

MIA still operating with what looks to be about 75% cancellations for MIA this afternoon. Everything north of PBI will be a disaster. Quoting the weather service:
STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO STURDY BUILDINGS, SOME WITH COMPLETE ROOF
AND WALL FAILURES. COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF MOBILE HOMES. DAMAGE
GREATLY ACCENTUATED BY LARGE AIRBORNE PROJECTILES. LOCATIONS
MAY BE UNINHABITABLE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS.
