How bad is AA trans Atlantic economy?

My wife and I had one TATL experience in economy on AA in June, when our upgrades failed to clear on JFK-MXP. We were fortunate to be on a 767 in the MCE mini-cabin with two seats to ourselves. Service was friendlier and more attentive than we got in business class from LHR to JFK on our return. Food was edible but bland, and not a lot of it. No personal IFE on those planes. I actually got some sleep, which I usually don't get going over to Europe, even in business class.

Would I want to repeat it? No. If I had to fly in Y and had no hope of an upgrade I'd probably try a different airline.

CO 764s have IFE, so do a lot of pmUA's fleet. Both E+ and MCE have added leg room, so that's a wash. Surely coach food can't make THAT much of a difference, can it? Or is there something I'm missing? You've not really said WHY AA > UA in Y...
Do the others charge to watch movies as AA does on some of its planes?
