Why no coach seats to / from China PVG PEK in <month> 2016?

I am trying to plan some travel next year, and have found there are almost no coach seats to PVG from LAX, ORD or DFW between 10 May and 15 June 2016. Yet there is normal availability in coach for return flights in the same period.

I thought it must be a glitch, but it has been like this for a couple of weeks now. Very annoying, and I can't think of any plausible reason.

This is indeed quite odd. I just checked a few dates in May on Expertflyer and (paid) Y inventory is zeroed out from all three gateways.

Agree it's odd, but certainly the standard "never form a judgement (on this kinda thing) over a weekend" applies. But, yeah, even with that caveat, a bit mysterious.

Sounds like it is time to take it up with AA: but which contact point?

Maybe a tweet but I haven't used twitter. Maybe now is the time to start?

The fares go up quite a bit during this period, probably has something to do with 200,000+ Chinese students studying in the US. Sorry, I keep adding to this. My Chinese step-son is graduating in May and I was lucky to get saver business class award seats for my wife to attend, but this was out at about 330 days. I still need to buy my ticket, and it looks expensive.

I've been looking for May availability but AA flights are either only selling full Y or J on those dates, has been like that since October.

If you change the search option to all carriers, then the normal discount fare comes up (with connection in NRT that is)

Twitter is the ONLY way to successfully, meaningfully interact with AA anymore.

I hate Twitter too-- but learn to use it -just- for this purpose.

If you're gonna fly AA, you need Twitter, especially if you're EP.

At least it's not snapchat! (which they just started as well.)

Unless for you with your insider access or me who seemingly is the only person who never has any trouble with the EXP line, among other avenues.

The reason Twitter is so useful is because you have younger agents manning them, who are a lot more tech savvy and better with technology in general than phone agents or airport agents who are older and generally more computer illiterate.

Yeah, I wouldn't disagree that that's a big part of it. I've hung out with the Twitter team at work (no big deal-- almost anyone can if they ask) and they are ON IT in terms of trying to fix/address as much as possible, as soon as possible as well as possible. And, yes, they are mostly young and very into the available technology, etc. It's a good point.

The main reason I use twitter is to communicate with AA. Usually quicker than calling the EXP line these days...

Edit because I have also found it useful to get help from other firms that are "unreachable" by adding a few @localnews handles to my comments.
