General status match questions [AA status matched by other airlines]

- If you status match from AA to another program, do you give up your AA status in the process? Or jeopardize future qualification for AA status?

- Do other programs typically have restrictions about when your AA status expiration date is? Namely, can you status match close to your AA status expiration date?

- If you have non-AA status with some reciprocal AA/OW benefits (and no AA status), is it possible to use that non-AA status to get preferred treatment on an AA flight (i.e., priority boarding, etc) but get AA mileage credit (EQM, RDM, or LT miles)? Or does treatment and mileage credit always stick together?

Thanks for the input.

1) No, your AA status does not change. The other program has no control on your AA program.
2) No, other program has no restrictions on AA program. Some program do grant their match end date based on the current one, such as Alitalia.
3)???? I'm kinda confused with this, but if you have some sort of perk, even though no status, it can follow through, and you can also credit to AA.

Clarification regarding #3 by way of a (fictitious) example:
- You have status on Alaska but not on AA.
- Alaska MVP gives you priority boarding, etc. when flying on AA.
- You have a flight on AA.
--> Is it possible to get priority boarding, etc (by way of your Alaska MVP status) but credit miles from the flight to AA?

The benefits you get on a flight are tied to the FF account that you use for the flight. So, if you want miles to go to AA then you use your AA account and get AA benefits. if you want miles to go to AS then you use AS account and get AS benefits.

But some people, after getting status benefits (seat allocation, lounge access, checked luggage, what ever), change the ff number to the other ffp for miles collection, at times with a new boarding pass. However this change of ffp does not always stick. There are threads about this when people are trying to claim the miles.

In the future (with all ffp's) I expect this change of ffp not to be allowed once a benefit of the ffp status used in the reservation has been gained, unless than benefit is reversed.

The grass in not always greener on the other side

For benefits like elite seat assignments, yes, your AS number would need to be in the reservation (since it involves actually doing something to the reservation). But for priority boarding etc (the benefits the OP asked about), there is not, in practice, a need to have your AS elite number in the reservation. If they even enforce the priority boarding lane, showing a copy of your physical MVP card will be plenty to use the priority lane.

Ditto for lounge access, if you have oneworld Sapphire/Emerald status with another carrier but want to credit an AA flight to AA.
