Official MCT / Minimum Connection Times for MIA (assuming same terminal):
NOTE: Though 1:35 is the given MCT International to Domestic (and 1:35 international to international), one should not consider that useful for everyone connecting international to domestic unless one has Global Entry or luck.
International arrivals at MIA requires most passengers to fill out a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Declaration Form 6059B - one per family - process U.S. Immigration, retrieve baggage at arrivals carousels, process through U.S. customs, re-check baggage, proceed to either the TSA connections security processing queue or landside and process TSA security (with onward boarding pass) to return airside. (Read on for exceptions.)
This does not apply if you are connecting international to international and have red "ITI" tags on your checked baggage. You will have to produce the Form 6059B and still pass through USCBP, albeit without baggage.
Other than for U.S. passport holders and passengers with USDHS ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization under the Visa Waiver Program), who may use kiosks that expedite the arrivals process, Immigration, Customs and TSA Security queues can at times be tortuous and one would do better scheduling a connection time closer to 2:30 (or even 3:00) for a comfortable international to domestic or to international connection for non-ESTA / non-U.S. passport holders.

Downtown Miami Due to increased security checkpoint wait times, you should allow yourself at least 3 hours between connections if you do not have Priority or Pre✓. A taxi to the city center should take approximately 12-17 minutes and will cost approximately $22. Because traffic to and from the airport can be unpredictable, consider taking the Metrorail Orange Line in lieu of a taxi. It is a 15-minute ride from the airport to the city center and trains run every 10-15 minutes except late nights. A roundtrip is $4.50.
Miami Beach Allow at least 3˝ hours between connections due to the possibility of heavy traffic on the highways between the beach and the mainland. A taxi to the beach should take approximately 22-27 minutes and will cost $35 (flat rate) if going south of 63rd Street. For reference, South Beach and most of the tourist spots are south of 23rd Street. Consider taking the 150 Miami Beach Airport Express bus from the airport to the beach. It is a 31-minute ride from the airport to the Lincoln Road Mall and buses run every 20 minutes. A roundtrip is $4.50.

This is sort of answered in the main wiki post but I have another "should I book this connecting flight" question:
I have a flight arriving on a Sunday afternoon at 15:35 on Iberia (in PE so I won't be the last one off the plane, either). I have Global Entry and will just have a carry-on bag. I have two options for a flight back to TPA the same day, one at 17:45 and another (much more expensive) option at 19:56. Should two hours be doable there? This is obviously making a big assumption that my flight back to the US is on-time.

Of course, with delays anything can happen, but that's life. And if your first flight is delayed enough that you miss your flight, AA will just put you on the next flight anyway. Even if you get a bad seat because of that, it's a short flight.

Hi
I have an American airlines flight next week, from London to Miami. If all goes well I have a 3hr 35min connection time for my next flight, an internal one also on AA. The international one arrives at ‘D’ and normally the connection goes from ‘D’.
Recently the London flight has been suffering extensive delays, and today is scheduled to arrive almost 2hrs late.
With such a reduced connection time there is a strong possibility that I will not be able to clear immigration, customs and recheck my bags, and thus may be refused boarding onto my connection. As I understand it they want you at the gate at least half an hour before departure which leaves less than an hour to complete all formalities.
How sympathetic are AA to this scenario?
If there is a substantial delay at London, would I be as well asking the London staff to rearrange my connection to the next day ... at their expense of course��
I can cope with an overnight at Miami if I have to, I just don’t want to roll up and be told that it is my fault!

I have an American airlines flight next week, from London to Miami. If all goes well I have a 3hr 35min connection time for my next flight, an internal one also on AA. The international one arrives at ‘D’ and normally the connection goes from ‘D’.
Recently the London flight has been suffering extensive delays, and today is scheduled to arrive almost 2hrs late.
With such a reduced connection time there is a strong possibility that I will not be able to clear immigration, customs and recheck my bags, and thus may be refused boarding onto my connection. As I understand it they want you at the gate at least half an hour before departure which leaves less than an hour to complete all formalities.
How sympathetic are AA to this scenario?
If there is a substantial delay at London, would I be as well asking the London staff to rearrange my connection to the next day ... at their expense of course��
I can cope with an overnight at Miami if I have to, I just don’t want to roll up and be told that it is my fault!
All hypothetical at the moment but you never know ....

With ESTA, immigration is fairly speedy and now that there's no customs check, that's one queue fewer to get stuck in.
You're unlikely to get any help in London, unless your flight is delayed enough that you are guaranteed to miss your flight (and even then, they might be more inclined to send you to Miami and have them sort you out as opposed to rebooking you for next day).
AA will accommodate you on the next flight (most likely, automatically) but if you have to overnight, you'll have to sort it out with an agent in regards to lodging. keep in mind that if your delay is weather related, they won't pay for your hotel.

The info provided by Djokison is spot on. My experience is that with baggage reclaim (and you will have to reclaim any checked luggage and then recheck it) it typically takes me an hour from the plane's arrival to making it to the next gate.

Agree with others that you have more than ample time for this connection.
FWIW I flew LHR-MIA and arrived on last Saturday 25 minutes early. So there is hope that the flight will not be late.
Although you did not state your times and connecting routing, is an earlier departure from London possible? Loads are usually light this time of year, so a change may be possible and this might void the fear you have of missing your connection, even though this seems unlikely to actually happen.

We are flying AA57 which arrives 1750 and connecting to AA316 departing at 2125. Plenty of time if all goes well.
We are flying into T5 at LHR so we are limited in choice for the TA leg, AA57 seemed the best of an indifferent choice.

Getting in with CLEAR at Terminal E but flight departs at Terminal D
I'm new here and I have been trying to figure out the map of MIA - Terminal D & E. This is my first time at this airport. Can anyone tell me the best suggestion? My flight departs out of MIA to SFO (domestic), I believe I'm departing from Terminal D.
Can I go in with CLEAR & precheck at Terminal E and from there walk to Terminal D? Or just don't go in with CLEAR and go straight in at Terminal D with precheck?

There is no Pre-check at E, but it does connect to D. There is Pre-check into D near priority check in. I ‘m not sure what Clear does, but I’d guess that if your departure is from a lower-numbered D gate (say <=26) and you have Pre, you would be better off entering through D. Otherwise, E is fine. They do give you some of the Pre privileges there - no need to remove belts and shoes.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but just want to double check.
The wife and I are planning a trip to PLS via MIA. Our PHX to MIA flight will only allow a 1.5 hour connection. There's nothing other than showing a passport before departing to the Caribbean, correct?
On return, I assume the Caribbean is like any international arrival where we will have to clear customs and immigration, correct?

On your return you go through immigration, then pick up your luggage and head through to the drop off and security area. There's no longer a customs check, unless you're picked from the crowd.

Hi, newbie here, I just booked flight LHR to Miami with BA and a separate ticket Miami to PLS with a 4 hour connection time- I now know One World won't check through my luggage and I have to collect it, but can I check it back in for my international flight to PLS at the connections desk or do I have to exit the airport and re enter ? And will I be ok with a 2 hour delay to first flight ? I'm an ESTA holder with checked baggage, Thanks for all help

wont be a problem. after you exit the customs hall the bag check/re-check is located to your left. The exit puts you at the TSA security checkpoint.

Thanks so just for clarity they tag your bag for final connection/ destination at the Connector desk ?
